    • Titus 2:11-1311 For the grace of God hath appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us, to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly and righteously and godly in this present world; 13 looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

    • 1 John 3:10In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

godliness often misconstrued
Godliness Often Misconstrued
  • Some think that gain is godliness
    • 1 Timothy 6:4-54 he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but doting about questionings and disputes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmising, 5 wrangling of men corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain.
godliness often misconstrued1

  • Some practice an outward form of godliness
    • 2 Timothy 3:5Holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power therefore. From these also turn away.

  • Godliness works deliverance from temptation
    • 1 Corinthians 10:13There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.

results of godliness3
Results of Godliness
  • Godliness prepares us for the life to come
    • 1 Timothy 4:8For bodily exercise is profitable for a little; but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life which now is, and of that which is to come.

“Be content with what you have, never with what you are.”

conclusion
CONCLUSION
  • Pray for conditions favorable to practicing godliness
    • 1 Timothy 2:1-31 I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men; 2 for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.
conclusion1
CONCLUSION
  • Godly people are set apart for the Lord
    • Psalms 4:3But know that Jehovah hath set apart for himself him that is godly: Jehovah will hear when I call unto him.
conclusion2
CONCLUSION
  • Good works become professors of godliness
    • 1 Timothy 2:9-109 In like manner, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shame fastness and sobriety; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly raiment; 10 but, which becomes women professing godliness, through good works.
conclusion3
CONCLUSION
  • Must strive to be like Him – to be with Him in eternity!
    • 1 John 3:2-32 Beloved, now are we children of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be. We know that, if he shall be manifested, we shall be like him; for we shall see him even as he is. 3 And every one that hath this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
