Recommendations for Program and Budget Planning Elizabeth Stage, Director March 17, 2004
Agenda for Meeting • Haas Interns’ Work • Campus Reviews • Staff Roundtable • Equity Committee • Staff Survey • Q&A
Haas Interns’ Reports • How were reports used? • As only one source of data • To identify things needing attention • Why weren’t reports distributed? • Recommendations to Director • Not uniformly well done
Haas Interns • Yvacheslav Byelyavey • Nick Christy • Luis Ferreira • Alfredo Finch • Roberto Guerrero • Christina Higgins • Shahar Moaz • Jeff Peck
Yvacheslav Bvelyavey • Conducted small survey • Studied museum visitor motivation, demographics, satisfaction with exhibits, store, café, etc. • Demographic profile • Found high degree of satisfaction
Slav’s Small Survey • 96% satisfied with quality of educational experience • 73% would recommend LHS to others • 70% likely to return within 3 months • Customers well educated (79% have degrees), females (72%), professionals (54%), median income of $50-79K.
Nick Christy • Studied the ways in which different curriculum development groups deal with design, editing, orders, fulfillment, and shipping. • Got a job before he could complete his work and make recommendations.
Luis Ferreira • Studied “Program Support”, the mechanism by which we tax revenue accounts and grants to pay for the administrative services they rely on. • Made recommendations for improvement, proposal to execute the work. • The Service Task Force, chaired by Flori Ramos, has begun to interview providers & consumers of services.
Alfredo Finch • Studied repurposing Hall artwork to make products that could be sold in our store and in other venues (t-shirts, hats, etc.) • Concluded that we would have to have a higher sales volume at the Discovery Corner Store to realize a profit and/or would need to dedicate a position to open up new distribution channels.
Cristina Higgins • Studied our opportunities for staff development. • Made recommendations that will be shared with our new Human Resources Manager when we get one. • Gave me a book on leadership that I have been reading.
Shahar Moaz • Studied use of information technology and made suggestions about strategic uses of technology in Tech Services and Science VIEW • Information Technology Task Force, representing those groups and their customers, chaired by Rena Dorph, started meeting recently, will produce an IT Plan for LHS.
Jeff Peck • Studied the markets for curriculum projects. • Got a job before he could complete his work and make recommendations.
Roberto Guerrero • Studied our use of the Yahoo Store and alternatives • Affirmed our use of Yahoo and the current rate plan • Suggested we increase marketing, do more research on customers and website effectiveness.
Campus Reviews • HR review by Manny Pereira and Mary Zeno completed in October ‘03; some recommendations implemented and others will go to new HR manager once on board. • Financial audit by campus concluded in December ‘03; some recommendations implemented and others will be done by June 30th.
Staff Round Table in Oct ‘03 • Encourage more collaboration across programs and divisions • Improve communication--more open, frequent, and inclusive. • Move from a culture of complaint to a culture of service; increase support, cooperation, and civility. • Survey staff for their opinions.
First Staff Survey Results • Questions about anonymity for the second survey; want candor! • Rena will show us how we see the data (then you may want to revise your survey) and give us a walk-through of the results • Then we will have an open Q&A.
LHS Equity Committee • Day-long retreat to plan next steps • Committee members from throughout LHS • Collecting data on who we are and who we serve • Next steps: thoughtful organizational plan
