Dominique looks to the left and notices a pole down.

1. Dominique and Randy are workers at Center Point Energy and are both at an intersection in your neighborhood searching for the next area to work on. The bikers stop and look at the trucks, hoping that they will have power soon!

2. Dominique looks to the left and notices a pole down.

3. He knows that all of the homes that this line (shown) goes to are still without power. Everywhere else already has electricity.

4. He now needs to determine where this line begins and ends so that he can be sure to get power to all those who are still using their IKE air conditioning.

5. So he drives east until he sees where the line begins, and he puts up a pole here on -2nd Street.

6. He then turns around and drives west to put up another pole at the other end of the downed line at 5th Street.

7. Dominique’s boss wants to know where he puts up the poles, so he writes down the following info. -2 street <Power< 5th street* Domain: -2 <x< 5

8. Now that Dominique has his poles up, it’s Randy’s turn to get to work so that the whole neighborhood will have power.

9. Randy drives to the northernmost point that is out of power and puts up a pole on B Street.

10. Then Randy turns around and puts another pole on –B Street, which is the southernmost point of power outages in the neighborhood.

11. Randy’s boss also wants to know where he put poles up. -B street <Power< B street* Range: -B <y< B

12. Together, Dominique and Randy have covered all the area that the downed line affected. They know this because there is no line outside of their poles.

13. Everybody is happy to have electricity.

15. What would have happened if Dominique had put his pole up on 3rd street instead of 5th street?

16. Everybody east of the pole would still be using their IKE air conditioning!! 

17. There is another neighborhood that is still out of electricity in the following areas as shown by the orange line below. Where would Randy and Dominique need to put their poles up in this neighborhood?

21. In this neighborhood, there are only individual houses without power. Does Center Point need to put up new power lines?
