Accomplishments and Ongoing Activities ESDA and Technical Reference-1 Development • Completed final draft of the ESDA • Updated 5-year funding projections • Added JCSDA participation • Added JAG/OCM roles and responsibilities • Completed first draft TR-1 • Clarified intended purpose of the TR-1 • Developed a satellite data product request procedure • Developed an annual update/review process

Accomplishments and Ongoing Activities • Initiated new data streams • JASON-2 SSHA & Wind/Wave data from NAVO to FNMOC • JASON-2 data from NESDIS to NAVO • COSMIC data from NESDIS to FNMOC in the same data set as JCSDA • Subscribed to GRAS via NWS TOC / EUMETSAT and METOP • Researched acquisition of TAMDAR data • Additional bulletins provided to NAVO from NWS/TOC • Alerted the need for upgrade of NOAA Tail Circuit between NWS Gateway and DATMS-U • Loaded BBFTP (secure FTP protocol) on DAPE Gatewayfor internal transfers between MODIS server and DAPE gateway

JAG/ODAA Action Items • Conventional Data Sub Group Action Items 2007-3.2-C BUFR bulletin data type and description information for OPCs. • Issue raised to WG/CSAB for assistance • WMO is replacing ascii formats with BUFR • Need to create a central web site maintained by NWS/TOC • Site would include data descriptions and available formats 2009-1.1-C Comparison of Fixed Weather Site Dictionaries • Work comparing Master Station Libraries continues satisfactorily • Verifying correct station location and elevation

  9. JAG/ODAA Action Items • Satellite DataSub Group Action Items 2008-4.1-S Transition of EOS data from Goddard (R&D) to NESDIS (Ops). Status: MODIS Ops data flow to AFWA was completed 5 May. Commencing in phases. 2008-5.2-S NCEP participation (member) to address Satellite Data issues. Status: Raised to WG/CSAB for assistance, position vacant. 2008-7.1-S JCSDA participation (member). Status: New JCSDA member Dr. Sid Boukabara has been appointed.

  10. JAG/ODAA Action Items 2008-8.7-S AATSR, MSG & AMSRE SST Data from NAVO to FNMOC. Status: Data flow is near completion. File naming, test data provided, decoder work proceeding 2008-8.8-S NOAA assistance to NAVO in acquiring future altimetry data from Altika, HY2 (Chinese), and Sentinel 3 satellites. Status: NESDIS researching access to data and POCs 2009-2.1-S Final review and implementation of ESDA Technical Reference (TR-1) Status: Under final draft review by Satellite Sub-group

  11. Satellite Data Requests A satellite data request log is maintained on the JAG/ODAA web page to track the progress of satellite data requests. 1. N-19 satellite test data Requestor: FNMOC Status: Completed -- Closed 2. MLS ozone and temperature data, and SBUV/2 ozone profile data Requestor: FNMOC Status: Completed -- Closed

  12. Environmental Satellite Data Annex (ESDA) ESDA approval will complete transition from SPP to new NOPC/COPC management structure MOA DAPE signed Sep 08 ESDA approval target May 09 Technical Reference 1 implementation May 09 (upon approval of ESDA)

  13. ESDA Status Under Legal/Budget Review • AFWA -- Complete • NAVY – Ongoing (at CNMOC) • NESDIS -- Ongoing (at NESDIS budget office)

COPC Action Itemsfor JAG/ODAA 2008-2.5 Provide recommendations to accomplish end to end testing of NPP data assimilation • Joined NPOESS IPO Test Data Working Group (TDWG) (representing JAG ODAA) • Acquiring ECIF test data to make available to OPCs and JCSDA. • Aligning NPP Compatibility Tests with IDPS output to make data available. Recommendation:Close. Continues as a JAG/ODAA Satellite Data Assimilation sub-group focus area.

  15. COPC Action Itemsfor JAG/ODAA 2008-2.6 Develop a set of standard test data based on contractor proxy simulations • Working through TDWG to make test data available on CASANOSA. • Aligning sensor vendor test data (scientific) with C3 test data to provide to IDPS. • Placing MODIS and IASI data in HDF-5 NPOESS VIIRS and ATMS/CRIS format and encode in real-time. Recommendation: Close. Continues as a JAG/ODAA Satellite Data Assimilation sub-group focus area.

  16. COPC Action Itemsfor JAG/ODAA 2008-2.7 NPOESS/IPO membership • Two new NPOESS/IPO members assigned Recommendation: Close

  17. New Issues METSAT Users Conference participants requested NOAA assistance to FNMOC/NRL/NHC (for TCWEB functionality) in acquiring future microwave data from: • French/Indian MADRAS mission • NASA GPM mission • Japanese GCOM mission • Chinese -- any possibilities
