  2. Vision International Pure Propulsion Current techniques in the waste management industry are insufficient, unpractical, incomplete, financially unattractive and/or harmful for the environment, resulting in: • Landfills • Incinerators • Non feasible cradle to cradle recycling concepts The question: • How do we create a waste management system which really is good for people and planet? • International Pure Propulsion found the answer to this question.

  3. International Pure Propulsion • CEO Nanno Peters, with his German partner responsible for the development of 3R Recycling • Longstanding experience in the international packaging and waste management industry • One marketing manager, one business development manager, one financial specialist and one legal council • Strategic alliance with the German engineering organization EPC (www.epc-online.de) • Working internationally from Stadskanaal (The Netherlands) • Internet: www.ippbv.eu • Contact: info@ippbv.eu or +31(0)599-652523

  4. Short history International Pure Propulsion • In the early nineties development of 3R started • Objective: creating an automated all-input recycling system, which transforms waste back into its original raw materials of refined quality. In an environmental friendly and economically attractive way • After ten years of development this goal was achieved in the year 2000 and in the same year a worldwide patent was obtained for the 3R process technology • Next years fine-tuning, testing and realization of pilots • In 2008 the system was independently tested by EPC. They concluded that the 3R process achieves all its goals • International Pure Propulsion was founded to market and sell the 3R technology world-wide

  5. Reversible Real Recycling - 3R • 3R transforms waste into its original raw materials of refined quality, this is cradle to cradle as it meant to be • Two main features make the 3R recycling process unique: its simplicity and its completeness • Completeness: 3R is the only system in the world which is capable of separating all types of waste in a closed system without pre-sorting • Simplicity: 3R is an automated system. At the starting point the unsorted waste is brought in and with little interference of personnel it is transformed into raw materials of refined quality. • The 3R process is climate neutral, CO2 neutral, environmentally friendly and without government funding economically attractive

  6. 3R - Input • 3R recycles all types of waste: • Household waste • Commercial / Industrial waste • Chemical / Hazardous waste • Hospital waste (within moral boundaries) • 3R is built up out of individual components. Therefore it is possible to build general plants for all types of waste, but also solutions for specific types of waste

  7. 3R - transformationprocess (1) • 1. Pre-sorting: pre-sorting is automated in the plant. No sorting of waste is needed before delivery to the 3R plant. The recycling system starts with a pre-sorting of plastics and non-plastics, as well as compounds, electrical and electronics scrap. The magnetic metals (iron and steel), as well as wood and glass, are separated individually and loaded into containers to be sold. Non-magnetic materials will be cleaned. Remaining residues are transported to the gas fermentation power plant • 2. Analysis of plastics: quality and erosion of the plastics are analyzed • 3. Shredder: the material will be cut into flakes • 4. Material separating and sorting: metals, paper, cardboard are separated and are ready to be sold

  8. 3R - transformationprocess (2) • 5. Extraction unit: plastics are cleaned of remaining residues. Ink printed onto plastics is extracted and ready to be re-used in the ink-industry • 6. Plastics separation and sorting: different kinds of plastics (PET, PVC, HP, HDPE, PURE, ABS, etc) are separated • 7. Thermal scanner: PP and LDPE are separated • 8. Color-separation: different colors of plastic are separated per type of plastic. It is possible to clear the plastic of color, but this is not efficient enough to generate positive returns • Compounding and extrusion: plastics are prepared for sale, with the possibility to keep in mind specific requirements of clients

  9. 3R - transformationprocess (3) • 10. Gas fermentation – Power plant: organic materials are transformed in methane gas and hydrogen, which are used as a source of energy • 11. Pressboard panel recycling system: different kinds of wood are processed for the chipboard and pulp industry • 12. Sewage sludge and residual chip briquette production system: remaining sewage sludge from the gas fermentation power plant and the remaining splinters from the pressboard panel recycling unit are injected in the sewage sludge and residual chip briquette production system, where they are dried and molded to heating briquettes. Those briquettes are used as coal back-up and in the agriculture or farming industry

  10. 3R - output The quality of raw materials gained through the 3R process is so high, that they can be sold for the current world-market prices Raw materials gained through the 3R process are: • Metals, ferrous and non-ferrous • Plastics • Paper • Ink/paint • Wood • Glass • etc

  11. EPC (1) • International Pure Propulsion wanted the 3R system to be tested by EPC, a German international oriented engineering organization specialized technical installations and with a revenue of more than 500 million Euro • From this test EPC concluded that the 3R process works with an efficiency rate of 97%. This means: 100 kilograms of waste input are transformed into 97 kilograms of raw materials of refined quality • The output of raw materials depend on the composition of the waste put into the system. Based on German averages the Return on Investment will be about 35% • The complete 3R process has also been successfully tested by the German test-authority TUV

  12. EPC (2) • EPC and International Pure Propulsion started an alliance for implementing the 3R technology • EPC offers the following guarantees: • An investment guarantee: EPC guarantees the problem-free technical working of a 3R recycling plant • An output guarantee: EPC guarantees that the raw materials will be sold for world market prices and is willing to buy the raw materials and take care of the selling themselves

  13. Financial framework • Minimum size of a 3R plant is 30 million Euro. • The yearly handling of 1.000 tons of waste requires approximately an initial investment of 1 million Euro A Dutch waste management organization calculated the financial framework of a plant with the capacity of a yearly production of 125.000 tons. For this plant the calculations were the following: • Initial investment: 111 million Euro • Yearly operational costs: 15,3 million Euro • Yearly depreciation: 10 million Euro • Revenues of selling raw materials: 91,2 million Euro • Profit before taxes and financing costs: 65,9 million Euro

  14. Chronology realization process • Pre-contractual phase • Contractual phase • Signing Non Disclosure Agreement • Visiting and self testing pilots • GO/ NO GO • Pre-engineering: location and waste study by EPC • Planning of logistics for input and output • Blueprint 3R plant • Realization of 3R plant under supervision of EPC • Turn-key completion of 3R plant in any place in the world • Training of local personnel and continuing assistance of EPC

  15. Why 3R? • 3R is the first and only system in the world which brings the real cradle to cradle, without negative side-effects 3R offers a solution for 3 problems: • Society: 3R offers a solution for all waste problems. There will be no harmful effects of cumulating and processing waste anymore. • Environment: 3R has no harmful output of gasses or soil pollution. 3R is climate neutral, CO2 free and environmental friendly • Money: 3R doesn’t need funding or any type of support from the government to be economically attractive. Without any subsidies the 3R system will generate a return on investment of about 35%. 3R also offers a strong impulse for employment.
