Essentially, they are EQUATIONS with INEQUALITY signs • You can solve Inequalities using the same skills • You need to understand the language of Inequality – next slide. • You need to be careful with negative values of the unknown! • Your teacher will explain that one later!   3. Inequality Signs LESS than 2 < 5 “2 is less than 5” Or, from the right, “5 is greater than 2” GREATER [or more] than 6 > 3 “6 is greater than 3” Or, from the right , “3 is less than 6” LESS than OR equal to GREATER than OR equal to

  4. Menu One-sided Inequalities like 4x + 7 > 19 Two-sided Inequalities like 11 < 4x + 7 < 19

  5. One sided Inequalities Subtract 3 each side Divide by 4 each side Filled IN because 5 is Included 5 Menu

  6. One sided Inequalities Add 6 each side Divide by 5 each side NOT Filled IN because 4 is NOT Included 4 Menu

  7. TWO sided Inequalities Add 7 each side Divide by 2 each side 11 6 INTEGER SOLUTIONS? 7,8,9,10,11 Menu
