SACSCOC Overview of Process • Expects an institution has made a commitment to: • Focus on student learning • Enhance the quality of its educational programs • Engage in continuous improvement • Comply with the SACSCOC Standards • Use a multi-phased process: • Off-Site Review (Nov 2012) • On-Site Review (April 2013)

Steps in the Reaffirmation Process • SACSCOC uses a multi-phased process • Off-Site Committee Review of: Compliance Certification Report • Institution’s self-study demonstrating compliance with standards • On-Site Review of: Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) • Committee visits the university, to evaluate and determine the acceptability of the QEP and review areas noted by off-site review committee

The Compliance Certification Report • Institution makes the case for compliance for each of the 97 Standards: • Covering: • Educational programs • Faculty • Library and Learning Resource • Financial and Physical Resource • Institutional Effectiveness • The case is supported with documentation, relevant data, and an explanatory narrative

  6. Off-Site Review-Process • Purpose: Provide an initial review of the institution’s self-study and prepares a report asking institution to explain areas of clarification • Outcome at Previous Institutions: • 2009 Off-Site Reviewers found more than 30% of standards need further explanation • 2010 Off-Site Reviewers found more than 35% of standards need further explanation • Prepare a Focused Report addressing these areas

Off-Site Review- Nov 2012 • For UK committee found 18 standards out of 97, needing further clarification: • Compared with other institutions, UK received far fewer areas of clarification than others • Prepared a Focused Report addressing these areas needing further clarification • Submitted February 25, 2013

  8. Next Step: Visit April 7-11, 2013 • Two Purposes: • Review the Focused Report • Evaluate the acceptability of the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) • Purpose of a QEP: • Plan for enhancing student learning or the environment for student learning • SACSCOC Standards CR 2.12 and CS 3.3.2

  9. Visit April 7-11, 2013 -- QEP • UK QEP is the KEY FOCUS of the visit: • Presentation U – multimodal communication across the curriculum • Targets developing oral, written and visual communication skills in upper-division undergraduates • QEP
