  1. Studying Photocathode Materials as ElectronSource for Modern Accelerators Narong Chanlek

  2. Review • The use of GaAs as photocathode is become a subject for ALICE, a 35 MeV energy recovery linac. • The QE of 10 % is needed in the operation. • The aim of Photocathode R&D Program at Vacuum Lab is to study a range of photocathode materials in detail, investigate and optimise the various fundamental processes in order to maximise cathode performance.

  3. GaAs Photocathode • The GaAs photocathode needs to be activate to negative electron affinity (NEA) state by applying caesium and oxidant (either O2 or NF3) onto its clean crystal surface • Requires an extreme high vacuum (XHV), 10 -12 mbar • Choices of cleaning process - Heat cleaning - Atomic hydrogen cleaning

  4. Experimental Setup Manipulator Surface analysis chamber Load-lock chamber Transfer arm Preparation chamber

  5. Some Results Talk at PESP 08 at JLAB
