  8. Finding the HCF • Since 400 = 24 x 52 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 5 x 5 • 2 x 2 x 5 = 20 is a factor • Since 260 = 22 x 5 x 13 = 2 x 2 x 5 x 13 • 2 x 2 x 5 = 20 is a factor • Therefore 20 is a COMMON factor • Since I chose ALL the values they had in common, 20 is the Highest Common Factor

  13. Ignoring the common factors • 650 = 2 x 5 x 5 x 13 • 728 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 7 x 13 • To find the LOWEST common Multiple we can ignore the factors repeated in the second number • LCM(650, 728) = 650 x 2 x 2 x 7 = 18200 • LCM(650, 728) = 650 x 728 ÷ 26 = 18200
