  1. A Complete Overview on How to Apply Pan Card for NRI Many non-resident Indians living outside India prefer to invest their money in India. The key areas where they find good options are the real estate sector, the financial segment and stock markets. However, before engaging in any kind of transaction, they should have the most crucial identity proof with them, known as the Permanent Account Number or PAN. Using the online facility to apply for pan card NRIIndians can get their PAN cards simply by sending an application from the comfort of their home. The PAN card is issued by the Income Tax Department to individuals and entities. NRIs can also access the offline facility by visiting any TIN facilitation centre for applying a new PAN card or changes in existing PAN card. However, the process for online pan card application for NRI is much faster and convenient, and thus most preferred by NRIs. Here’s the complete guide for NRIs that will prove to be useful when applying for a PAN card.

  2. The online application process Before going ahead with online pan card application for NRI, individual applicants should ensure that they have their Aadhaar card ready as PAN card should be linked with Aadhaar details, according to government rules.

  3. Mentioned below is a step-by-step guide which should be followed by NRIs when applying for a PAN card. Step 1: Visit the official website of an authorised service provider to obtain the application form. Alankit, a 25-year old company in the e-governance sector, provides all PAN-related services. It is to be clearly noted that there are two types of application forms namely - Form 49A and Form 49AA. The former is valid for those individuals and entities residing outside India whereas the latter is valid only for applicants who are Indian Citizens and Indian companies within India. Step 2: Before proceeding to apply for pan card NRI Indians should thoroughly read the instructions given on the PAN card. They must fill in relevant details such as name, address, signature and passport-sized photographs. Along with the form, they also need to furnish documents as valid proof of identity (POI) and proof of address (POA). Step 3: The forms should be submitted at any TIN facilitation centre, through the service provider. A processing fee, which is around Rs. 1,040 for applicants, must be paid for online pan card application for NRI.

  4. The offline application process • Although, the online mode of PAN card application is quite popular. But, NRIs still have the option of physically visiting a PAN centre for obtaining the application form. For offline support, applicants should approach their nearest authorised TIN-Facilitation (TIN-FCs) and PAN centres from where they can obtain the application form 49AA. Dedicated professionals at these centres will provide guidance through all the stages of PAN card. • Documents to provide for PAN card application • The essential documents that are required for verifications such as POI, POA and PODB are mentioned in the application form and they should be duly furnished during submission of the PAN card application. The following are some important documents which can be submitted: • For POI: Passport, Aadhar card issued by UIDAI and Photo Identity Card issued by the central/state government. • For POA: Passport, Bank Account Statement, Credit Card Statement and Property Registration document. • For PODB: Birth certificate issued by a municipal authority, Aadhaar Card and Matriculation certificate.

Foreign nationals can provide their citizenship identification number, passport copy or copy of PIO card, etc. The process for PAN card corrections Sometimes, PAN card holders may require changes or corrections in their PAN details owing to various reasons. For instance, spelling errors change in name of PAN card holder or father’s name, signature mismatch, poor photo clarity, etc. In such as cases, PAN holders must fill and submit pan card correction form in a similar process as applicable when choosing to apply for pan card NRI. The final step to get PAN Card Once the applicants successfully submit their application forms, the processing takes place in a span of just few days. After the processing of the forms, the Permanent Account Number is issued within five working days by the I-T Department and the new PAN card is delivered to the applicant’s address within 15 to 20 business days. A 15-digit acknowledgment number is sent to applicants using which they can track their application status online, within 3 or 4 days of application.
