  2. What is Capital Punishment???? • Capital Punishment is the legally authorized killing of someone as punishment for a crime.

  3. History of Capital Punishment • The Death Penalty dates back to ancient times- Code of Hammurabi • The death penalty is used for crimes such as first degree murder or in cases of treason.

  4. Famous Executions… • John Wayne Gacy Jr.(1994-lethal injection, Illinois). • Serial killer known as the “killer clown” • Raped and murdered 33 boys and hid them in his crawlspace

  5. Ted Bundy(1989-electric chair, Florida) • Serial killer, killed 30 women, even beheaded a few • Stanley “Tookie” Williams • Leader of Crips, notorious, Street gang in L.A. • First degree murder • (2005-lethal injection, CA)

  6. Why is Capital Punishment needed? • Capital punishment is needed to help offset and deter crimes • It is a form of justice for the victim’s family.

  7. The Problem • The problem associated with capital punishment is whether it deters crimes punishable by death. • This then installs a sense of fear and anger. • Personal and social costs then have to be weighed.

  8. Solution • The solution I propose is to inform people of the benefits of capital punishment • Explain why it was created, the purpose for it • Use the death penalty more often.
