  3. Sources • Primary source: burning fossil fuels • Human activities • lightning • fertilizers • Agriculture • Oil and gas industry • Transportation

  4. Health Effects • Irritates the lungs • Increases the chance of asthma • Respiratory infections • Visual Impairments • rapid, burning spasms • swelling of throat • reduced oxygen intake • a larger buildup of fluids in lungs and/or death

  5. Air Quality Standard • Contributes to acid rain, smog, ozone depletion • Nationally, average NO2 concentrations have decreased substantially over the years
