A person’s BP can rise when they are under stress.

  • People with hypertension show that their BP rises when under stress.
  • Simulate stress by exercise and ice cold water to see if stress can raise a person’s BP.
  • Identify those who may develop hypertension later in life.

Methods
  • Recorded the normal BP of each person.
  • Recorded the persons BP under physical stress.
  • Recorded each persons BP after hand submerged in ice cold water.
  • Compare the changes of the BP.

BP Before and After Ice WaterNull Hypothesis is that the BP should be the same before and after hand submersion in ice water.

Fail to reject Ho

The P- value is greater than .05.

  • The time the hand was submerged in the ice water was not long enough. It was not a good simulation of stress.

The P-value is lower than .05.

  • The exercises were a good simulation of stress.
  • Showed a change in BP

Conclusion

The hand and ice water stress simulation did not raise the BP. However, the exercise stress simulation did raise the BP. Stress can raise a person BP.
