  2. YEMEN: Republic of Yemen • Location: In the Southern Western corner of Asia bordering the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Red Sea, between Oman and Saudi Arabia. • Area: 555000 sq. km. • Islands: Tens of islands, Socotra is the largest, 3500 sq. km. • Coastline: 2000 km. • Population:20000000

Cultural Heritage in Yemen • Yemen has a tremendous CH spread all over the country. • There are tens of thousands of historical sites and monuments. • The cradle of civilization and one of the oldest human settlements. • The origin of Arabs and the Arabia Felix. • The land of queen Saba. • A country of a unique cultural landscape &environmental sites.

  4. HISTORIC CITIES IN YEMEN There are tens of living Historic Cities such as: • SANA’A • SHIBAM • ZABID • D’JIBLA • SADA • THULA • TARIM, etc

The Old City of Sanaa • More than 3000 years old with outstanding architecture. • The summer Capital of Queen Saba and the historical & political Capital of Yemen. • 1984, launching of the National & International campaign for safeguarding of the city. • 1984-1986, establishment of technical unit for the preservation of the Historic cities of Sana’a and Shibam. • 1990, Reunification of Yemen, establishment of GOPHCY.

  6. Shibam & Wadi Hadramout • The first sky scraper in the world, dated back to the 2nd century B.C, famous as Manhattan of Arabia. • Unique mud Architecture in the heart of Wadi Hadramout. • In 1984 nominated on the List of World Heritage.

  7. Historic City of Zabid • Famous as the city of science & scientists in the Islamic history. • The first Islamic capital of Yemen from the 7th century AD. • It has a unique brick architecture in the Arabia. • In 1993, nominated on the List of World Heritage. • In 2000, it has been listed as a World Heritage in Danger.
