  1. AVI Edward Irving Mortis grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where his twin sister gave him the nickname “Avi.” Avi has written more than 60 books, in many different genres and for many different age groups. One of Avi’shistorical novels, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, won a Newberry Honor. In this story, the lone young lady aboard a transatlantic voyage in 1832 must choose her allegiance to either a murderous captain or a rebellious crew. Falsely accused of theft and murder, Crispin, an orphaned peasant boy in fourteenth-century England, flees his village and meets a larger-than-life juggler who holds a dangerous secret. This Newberry Winner is the first in a trilogy.

  3. AVI The South Orange River (S.O.R.) School is famous for never losing a game, but that all changes when the school insists some non-jock 7th graders form a soccer team. It usually takes Aviabout a year to write a book, but he wrote S.O.R. Losers in one day! How? It’s based on his own terrible high school soccer team! This realistic fiction title will make you laugh! Romeo and Juliet Together (and Alive) at Last follows the same cast of characters. This time, they are trying to get two reluctant “lovers” together by means of producing a Shakespearean play. This one is even funnier than S.O.R. Losers. Check it out!

  4. AVI Avi is probably most famous for great animal fiction. How many of these have you read? Poppy, a deer mouse, urges her family to move next to a field of corn big enough to feed them all forever, but Mr. Ocax, a terrifying owl, has other ideas. Find out what happens when shy Poppy confronts the villain! The Dimwood Forest series continues with several other books, including Poppy and Rye, Poppy Returns, and Poppy and Ereth. In Ragweed, the prequel to Poppy, a young country mouse, leaves his family and travels to the big city, where he finds excitement and danger and sees cats for the first time

  6. AVI Don’t forget to check out some of Avi’s fantastic fantasy fiction as well… Having used four of the five wishes she is granted to make on behalf of the hapless citizens of her country, Morwenna flees the kingdom to decide what to do with the last wish. Check out Bright Shadow! In Italy in 1491, Mangus the magician and his apprentice are summoned to the castle of Duke Claudio to determine if his daughter is indeed being haunted by a ghost. Don’t miss Midnight Magic! Falsely accused of plotting to overthrow King Claudio, scholarly Mangus the magician, along with his street-smart servant boy, Fabrizio, face deadly consequences unless they can track down the real traitor by the stroke of midnight. Gotta read Murder at Midnight!
