  2. Julian (1342-1416) • When we encounter God, our proper attitude is one of “reverent fear” before the awe-inspiring majesty of God.

  3. Co-Creators • The consequence of this divine union is that humans provide the locus for the continual coming-into-being of God.

  4. Julian’s Cell Today • “For God is never out of the soul, in which he will dwell blessedly without end.”

  5. The Contemplative Path • The contemplative path is one of “active passivity.” That is, our action is one of allowing and consenting to the action of God.

  6. Julian’s Church Today • “For God does not despise what he has made, nor does he disdain to serve us in the simplest natural functions of our body, for love of the soul which he created in his own likeness.”

  7. “All Will Be Well” • “Sin is necessary, but all will be well, and all will be well, and every kind of thing will be well.”

  8. Love is the Foundation • Julian asserts that we are “bound to God in love” and that “our life is all founded in love, and without love we cannot live.”

  9. Julian’s Cell Door • “In my end” says T.S. Eliot, “is my beginning.” And, “arriving we started, we know the place for the first time.”
