  1. How to Negotiate Medical Bills Before Medical Treatment • When it comes to getting the best bill for your hospital or negotiating medical bills, you will want to negotiate charges before you or a family member receives medical treatment. This is perfect for elective treatments and pre-planned treatments like childbirth. • Do these 3 things before medical treatment to help reduce the cost of negotiating medical bills. • Find someone that is in-network. One of the most significant steps you can take when it comes to paying less for negotiating medical bills is to use your health insurance’s website to find a doctor that is in-network. If you are having a procedure, be sure to also ask that any consultant that sees you is also in-network. Those out of network charges can add up rapidly. • Shop around for a doctor beforehand. One smart thing you can do before medical treatment is to shop around for a doctor. This even works for simple urgent care calls as well! Just call the clinic or doctor’s office and ask them what their rates are. You can even give your health insurance information in advance so that you have a good understanding of how much you will owe. By shopping around for a consultant beforehand, you will not only be able to find a consultant or clinic that you are comfortable with, but one that fits your budget too! • Negotiate with the doctor or office manager. You can even negotiate your medical bills and rates with the office manager before your medical treatment begins. For instance, if you’re going to have a baby, you can meet with the medical billing person at your doctor and negotiate a payment plan or a pay-in-full option. Negotiating with the medical billing office or office manager doesn’t have to be scary! Ultimately, these professionals want to be paid. And they are willing to work with you to ensure that they receive payment. Check out the tips at the end of the article for how to negotiate medical bill properly.
