  3. Puberty - When a person begins to develop certain traits of an adult of his or her own gender. • Puberty marks the beginning of adolescence.

  4. During Puberty What is responsible for the changes that affect teens during puberty?? - Hormones

  5. Hormones- -What is a Hormone? Chemical substances that are produced in glands. They play a role in sexual growth, development, and reproduction.

  6. Hormones Testosterone – Male hormone Estrogen & Progesterone Female hormones

  7. Primary Sex Characteristics - -related directly to the production of reproductive cells which is called, Gametes. • Male gametes – sperm • Female gametes - eggs (ova)

  8. Secondary Sex Characteristics- Additional changes during puberty that occur over several months or years. What do you think these are????

  9. Secondary Sex Characteristics: Males: Facial hair appears Body hair appears Voice deepens Shoulders broaden Muscles develop Hairline begins to recede Perspiration increases
