Demographics • Carrollton Elementary School • Kindergarten • 17 students(9 Girls, 8 Boys) (7 Caucasian, 4 Hispanics, and 6 African American) • Age Range 5-7 • Teacher is a Caucasian female in her 50s • Para Professional is an African American female in her 50s • Main focus of study: Hispanic Male=Student A African American Male= Student B

Major Findings • The instructor worked to all of the students needs to the best of her ability. • Instruction time was mostly group centered with students of the same capabilities paired together. • Teacher- student interaction was very hands on. My host teacher seldom sat down because she was always attending to a need of a student. • The instructor handled the class quite well, but the Para professional did a even better job. She is the authority figure of the classroom when it comes to dishing out punishment. • Student to student interaction was appropriate for the age group in most situations.

  5. Assimilation • A term referring to another part of the adaptation process initially proposed by Jean Piaget. Through assimilation, we take in new information or experiences and incorporate them into our existing ideas. • Ex. Student A (Hispanic Male 5 years old)

  6. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs • Maslow's hierarchy explains human behavior in terms of basic requirements for survival and growth. These requirements, or needs, are arranged according to their importance for survival and their power to MOTIVATE the individual. Ex. Student B

  7. Motivation • The process that initiates, guides and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. Motivation is what causes us to act. • Ex. Student A and B
