Governmental Funding Resources for Graduate StudentsNational Science Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants *In selected areas of the biological sciences. *Provide partial support of doctoral dissertation research *A student must have advanced to candidacy for a Ph.D. degree to be eligible.

Governmental Funding Resources for Graduate StudentsNational Science Foundation Developing Global Scientists and Engineers International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) Supports groups of U.S. undergraduate or graduate students conducting research abroad in collaboration with foreign investigators Doctoral Dissertation Enhancement Projects (DDEP) supports the dissertation research abroad of doctoral students in collaboration with a foreign investigator.

Watkins Graduate Research Fellowship The goal of the fellowship is to increase the number of underrepresented groups completing doctoral degrees in the microbiological sciences.  Association for Women in Science Educational Foundation For female students enrolled in a behavioral, life, physical, or social science or engineering program leading to a Ph.D. degree may apply.

Non-Governmental Funding Resources for Graduate Students L'ORÉAL-USA Women in Science US Fellowship Awards Awards grants to third and fourth year graduate students and postdoctoral researchers who are pursuing studies and research in the natural sciences (biological and physical), engineering, computer science and mathematics.  The New York Academy of Medicine Student Essay Prize in the History of Medicine and Public Health:  This annual student essay contest awards a $500 prize, and the winning essay will receive expedited review for possible publication in the Journal of Urban Health. The contest is open to students in accredited professional degree programs in medicine, nursing and public health. Sigma Xi Grants in Aid of Research Program The program awards grants of $1,000 or less to students from all areas of the sciences and engineering. Students use the funding to pay for travel expenses to and from a research site.
