  1. Orphans in Peru Jaxon Allen-Jones

  2. Introduction • A friend of our family, Shanon Marie runs the SAMI Institute. On a recent mountain trek to Peru, her group received request for assistance from the mayor of a remote village in Pomachanchi, peru.

  3. Why? • For my Bar Mitzvah project I am helping orphans in Peru. When I heard about these children I felt moved to do something for the good of that village. I am trying to collect one hundred dental kits for the orphans, five hundred dollars for the orphans and school supplies. I hope to go to Peru to deliver these supplies next winter break.

  4. Awareness • I want to raise awareness about orphans in Pomachanchi, Peru, with the intention of helping to provide them with funding and dental supplies. My hope is that this small step will help the overall quality of life for these children and their village.

  5. Where • Pomachanchi is located in Peru, it is located outside of Cuzco. The closest big city is Cuzco. Peru is located in South America. It is located next to Brazil and Bolivia.it is bordered by the Pacific Ocean.

  6. Why are they orphaned • Many children are orphaned because of poverty. Poverty is widespread throughout this region. • Parents may die. • One parent family. • No resources f0r support.

  7. Why do they need help? • The community has limited resources. The average monthly income is the equivalent of around 60 dollars(the average cost for a new video game). Levels of education are low, mostly no higher than elementary school. Most villagers live without clean water, proper sanitation, or electricity.

  8. What the community already provides • The village can supply housing and food.

  9. Who you are helping • Due to illness the harsh effects of poverty, 20 families of children have been orphaned. This is the highest number of parentless families the village has ever seen.

  10. How I am going to help! • $500- ask for donations and sell cards with the children's pictures on them. • Dental kits- ask for donations from dentists. • School supplies- write a letter to Office Depot and Office Max to donate supplies.

  12. Conclusion • Peru is a wonderful, beautiful and diverse place. It can also be harsh an inhospitable environment. The people are surviving in harsh conditions and still can remain humane. These children are kind and caring, shouldn’t we be the same?
