  1. 8 October 2013 The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2013 to François Englert and Peter Higgs “for the theoretical discovery of a mechanism that contributes to our understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles, and which recently was confirmed through the discovery of the predicted fundamental particle, by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider”

PH-DT new Personnel Openings • Eng (CP E) for EO (replacement M.Hatch): board took place on 3/9 > Diego Alvarez Feito (starting 1.11.13) • EM-Tech (CP C) for irrad/EM2: board 17/9 • 1 M-Tech for EM1 (replacement CH.Denarie): board in Nov • CyrilleGuilley selected • 1 M-Tech for EM2 (replacement P.Charra): board in Nov • RomainBrendlen selected • 2x IC slots for the Cooling project & Magnet and Controls project VIA fellows in PH-DT • 1 DT proposal on Composite R&D (A.Catinaccio) • 1 CMS proposal on TK II (A.Onnela) Both projects selected: candidates will start on 1st of February

  5. Workshop matters • New WS supervisor 108 appointed (Patrick retiring): Francois Garnier to overlap and start officially 1st of January ! • Workshops: meeting held on 15.10.2013 with E. Cennini (GL DGS-SEE), Philip Santos (DGS-SEE), Mark Hatch (PH-DSO), A. Catinaccio: DT approach for conformity confirmed : memo expected asap by Mark on PH strategy: • Concerns in particular authorization of (new) operators (recent news from DGS) • Risk Assessment of machines and Safety Signs • Follow up of Inspection Reports and required actions for WS conformity • Presentation foreseen on 21.11 by Mark Hatch (DSO) on role and responsibility of WS supervisors

  6. Workshop matters • Slow down in conformity activities in DT, budget 32000 not fully exploited (~ 40 K left) but some jobs remains to be done next year. • PH renewal of annual financial support to the MME conformity team (25 K contribution): to be requested by Mark Hatch (still a long list of machines to be put in conformity in PH) plus budget • Traka in 162 still under procurement (now on M. Losasso) – mostly for IdeaLab use - (money recuperated from scrapped machines on DT budget)

  7. Material A request has been made to Livio for a new CNC milling machine. Discussion and proposal in January
