  1. Compare/Contrast (differences and similarities) the text version of Beowulf to the Hollywood film version of Beowulf. Why did the Hollywood version change so many scenes, for what purpose? Discuss the three major “battle scenes” and their changes . Don’t forget about the underlying storyline added in the movie about how both Hrothgar and Beowulf fathered a child with the sea witch, Grendel’s and the dragon’s mother. Did the changes/additions to the movie add to story or take away from its storyline and literary integrity? Can viewers still tell from the movie that the Anglo-Saxons valued courage, honor, fearlessness, self-sacrifice, physical strength, loyalty to a tribal king, wisdom in guiding others, and supreme self-confidence in their heroes and their leaders?
