  2. The Powers of the US President (30 mins) • Cut out the Picture of Obama and stick it to Cardboard, make a stand with the cardboard. • Access: • Powers of the Presidency • Using postie notes/paper use the website and create and add label the powers of the president onto the figure.

  3. Checks/Limits on the Presidents Power……….. (30 mins) • You will now extend you cardboard figure display of The Presidency and checks and limits! • Cut out the figures /pictures/stick to cardboard. • Read Page 181(A Bennett) and summarise key checks for: Congress, Supreme Court, Public Opinion, pressure Groups, media, Federal Bureaucracy. • Add on to figures and display.

Media Diary Update (10 mins) • Find relevant articles for todays topic: • Look at:The Guardian • The Independent • USA Today • The Economist • BBC News • Update your media diary. • Look at the handout for examples. (Congress/Impeachment with Clinton) ( Supreme Court: Nixon V United States) (Public Opinion: Clinton survived as he was popular).

  5. Essay Planning There are no effective checks on presidential power.’ Discuss. 20 mins Remember the Rules…… • Every argument needs an example • Don’t be a victim of panic! Leave a space, put an asterix in the margin and return to the lost point • Give your self enough time to read over and edit • Spend longer on the discussion (strengths/Weaknesses)

Homework • Update your Large Mind map and add on the Presidency • Read through chapters on Vice Presidency, the cabinet, executive and presidents relationship with congress and create notes or a chart with strengths & weaknesses and examples • Complete a timed essay: • How important is the role of the Vice President? -20 mins • Research the topic: The US President and international power, foreign policy. What impact does a US President have on global politics?
