One-Introduction(the nature) • First, the nature and purpose of the course 1.nature: the ideological trend of presentation and evaluation. thinking on contemporary social issues in west countries. • "Contemporary" : The social stage since the1970s. • "Foreign“: The Western developed countries. • "Society" :refers to the 20th century human society since the 1970s. • "Ideas" that formed the ideological and theoretical prevalence.

  3. Introduction(Purpose) Broadening the student’s horizons, expanding knowledge fields , understanding forward, enriching heritage. Adapting to the future, adapting to society and the capability to understand the original flavor of the English system

Introduction(the background ) • 3.the background forming the thoughts_the world has been in a new development period since 1970s . • Socialism coming into low stage, the Soviet Union and the socialist model lost its appeal. After 1990s,the soviet union has been in Disintegration and the idea socialist “out of date”appeared. • capitalism :relatively stable development , • The development of capitalism also brought a range of issues: (the rapid development of new technological revolution; the global environmental deterioration, high unemployment ;

Introduction(the background ) • welfare system in crisis, the strong trend of economic globalization, etc) • which made the existing capitalist system a severe challenge, resulting many social crisis in many Western countries. • the core social concern issue. Capitalism going? Human society going? • To solve these problems, the political forces andrepresentatives have put forward some new theories in philosophy, economics, political science, sociology, Marxist theory and other areas forming all sorts of social thought.

Two _the basic content (1-2) • This course introduces the thought of 9 more influential, as follows: • ⑴ the futurisim(未来主义):the social thought that researches and forecasts the future prospects of social development in the western developed capatalism countries emerging in late 1960s to early 1970s. • ⑵ the neo-liberalism(新自由主义):A thought that defenses the free capitalist system in 1930s early and appeared later in 1970s insisting on Private monopoly capitalism against the state monopoly in economy.

  7. Two _the basic content (3-4) • ⑶The postmodernism(后现代主义). A cultural trend thought which critics and reflects the modern western society produced in the 60s, also as a kind of criticism and reflection of modern society, is also criticism and inheritance of modern western philosophy which appeared with criticing and reflecting on the social, philosophical, scientific in a rational form in 1960s. • ⑷The post-colonialism(后殖民主义):A thought which reflects the historical fact of European colonialism and its consequences for the content as a critical theory produced in the late 1970s.

Two _the basic content (5-6) • ⑸ The Analytical Marxism(分析的马克思主义): Another Marxist thought appeared Following Althusser‘s(阿尔都塞) structuralist Marxism(结构主义的马克思主义) in 1970s in Western countries with The main features basing the on the method on analytic philosophy and social science methodological individualism to re-construct the so-called scientific revolution of Marxism. • ⑹ The ecological socialism(生态社会主义):A thought that is pruduced through “green movement” in 1970s, the future social theory Goal is to achieve eco-socialist ideals by the basis of a set ofmaintenance of ecological balance to meet the new needs as the goal of harmonious development of man and nature.

Two _the basic content (7-9) • ⑺The feminist socialist(女权社会主义): A social thought formed in the late 1960s early 1970s,which trys to combine feminism and socialist thought . • ⑻ The market socialism(市场社会主义):A thought formed in the 1930's, revived in late1980's ,which trys to combine market economy with socialist theory . ⑼ The Democratic Socialism(民主社会主义):An ideology collective of Social Democratic Party, the Socialist Party and Labour Party (usually referred to as the Socialist Party) in the contemporary developed capitalist countries ,also known as social democracy,it is different from Both neo-liberalism and communism .
