ngiseD drawkcaB Unit Planning Considerations… • Big Ideas and Overall Expectations • Learning Skills and Work Habits • Assessment and Evaluation Techniques • Instructional Strategies • Smarter Science and Inquiry • Exceptionalities • Accommodations and Modifications
BigIdeas • Energy can be transformed … • Energy transformation…involve thermal energy losses…are never 100% efficient. • …technological applications that involve energy… can affect society… the environment in positive and negative ways… use responsibly
Overall Expectations • Analyze technologies that apply principles of and concepts related to energy transformations, and assess the technologies social and environmental impact; • Investigate energy transformations and the law of conservation of energy, and solve related problems; • Demonstrate an understanding of work, efficiency, power, gravitational potential energy, kinetic energy, nuclear energy, and thermal energy and its transfer (heat).
Assessment and Evaluation • Diagnostic: • Pre-testing, class brainstorming • Formative: • Homework take-ups and class monitoring • PEOEs • Bell Ringers • Self assessments • Teacher survey • Summative: • Quiz • Inquiry lab reports • Research presentations • Rube Goldberg design and build • Unit test
Warm Ups: Diagnostic and Formative Assessments • Class begins with an activity that reviews previous material and determines whether students have the requisite knowledge for the day’s lesson • Example: • A bottle rocket is shot into the air. If its initial velocity was 20 m/s what is the maximum height the rocket reached?
Key Terms & Concepts • KTC Sheets promote our Growing Success’ “Learning Skills and Work Habits” • Responsibility • Organization • Independent Work • Collaboration • Initiative • Self-Regulation
Sample Quiz • Formative • Checks student’s progress • Summative • Determines whether students have gained knowledge
Teacher Self Evaluation • Students were asked to comment anonymously on the teacher’s performance so that teaching methods could be evaluated.

DI and Instructional Approaches • Multiple Intelligences • Musical • Kinesthetic • Logic / Mathematical • Intrapersonal • Interpersonal • Linguistic • Spatial
Musical It encompasses the capacity to recognize and compose musical pitches, tones, and rhythms
Musical • Rube Goldberg • Energy Presentations
Kinesthetic • Implies that mental and physical activity as related. • A good change from dormant seat work. • Rube Goldberg • SMARTBoard Review Game • Power Olympics Activity
Logical/Mathematical • Consists of the capacity to analyze problems logically, carry out mathematical operations, and investigate issues scientifically • Homework questions • Class worksheets • Unit Test
Intrapersonal • Involves having an effective working model of ourselves, and to be able to use such information for further learning. • Quizzes • Unit Test • Homework Problems • Videos
Interpersonal • Through an understanding that the intentions, motivations and desires of other people can influence our own learning. • Research Project and Presentation • Inquiry Labs • Rube Goldberg
Linguistic • The ability to learn languages, and the capacity to use language to accomplish certain goals and express learned knowledge. • Overhead lessons • Research Presentation
Spatial • The potential to recognize and use the patterns of wide space and more confined areas. • Energy Presentation • Overhead Lessons • Graphing, Organizing, Displaying Inquiry Lab Reports • Egg Jar Demo • Cloud Chamber Demo
