  3. What is the interactive whiteboard: Is a large interactive display which is connected to a projector and computer. EPISKOPI LEARNING CENTER

  4. How it operates: • A projector is used to projects the computer's desktop onto the board's surface. • It controls the computer using a special pen, or the users finger or other compatible device. • Can be typically mounted to a wall or floor stand. EPISKOPI LEARNING CENTER

  5. Where we can use them: Can be used in classrooms at all education levels, in corporate board rooms, work and training rooms for professional sports coaching etc. EPISKOPI LEARNING CENTER

What we can do with Interactive Whiteboard: • We can run a software that is loaded on to the connected computer(web browser, a special program e.t.c) • We can capture and save any notes written on a whiteboard. • We can capture notes written on a graphics tablet connected to the whiteboard. • We can control the computer connected from the white- board. • We can use software to translate cursive writing on a graphics tablet into text. • We can usean Audience Response System so that presenters can poll a classroom audience or conduct quizzes, capturing feedback onto the whiteboard. General operation: • An interactive whiteboard (IWB) device is connected to a computer via: USB or a SERIAL PORT cable, or wireless (Bluetooth or wireless like a pc). • A device driver is usually installed on the attached computer. (the interactive whiteboard can act as a Human Input Device (HID), like a mouse). • The computer's video output is connected to a digital projector so that images may be projected on the interactive whiteboard surface.   8. Then the user has to calibrate the whiteboard image using a pointer as necessary(After this is done, the pointer or any other device can be used to activate programs or buttons and menus from the whiteboard itself). EPISKOPI LEARNING CENTER

  9. An IWB emulates both mouse and keyboard. The user can present a presentation or a class almost exclusively from the whiteboard. • In a case that a text input is required, user can invoke an on-screen keyboard or, if the whiteboard provides for this, utilize the handwriting recognition. This makes it unnecessary to go to the computer keyboard to enter text. EPISKOPI LEARNING CENTER

  10. Most of IWBs are supplied with a software which provides tools and features specifically designed for it to maximize interaction opportunities. EPISKOPI LEARNING CENTER

  11. These generally includes the ability to: -Create virtual versions of paper -Flipcharts, -Pen and highlighter options, -Possibility of virtual rulers, -Instruments that can be used in traditional teaching. EPISKOPI LEARNING CENTER

Can be used for different types of learners:IWB materials brings together the benefits of a multiple-intelligence approach to learning. • Some students prefer to listen and absorb, • Others respond well to pictures, • While others respond well to physical interaction. IWB support users with all these preferences through its rich multi-media content, audio-visual content and flipcharts involving a range of simple interactions, such as drag and drop, erase or write-in.   13. Most of IWBs globally involve one of four forms of interaction between the user and the content projected on the whiteboard. • An infrared scan technology. • A resistive, touch-based board. • An electromagnetic pen and associated software. • An ultrasonic pen. EPISKOPI LEARNING CENTER

Interactive Whiteboards Benefits • Suitable for learners of all ages. • Can work like a conventional-whiteboard (traditional-whiteboard). • It is better to classroom presentation (several number of students can be given presentation at a time). • Allows integration of audio, video, graphics, text and animation (from wide variety of media like DVD Internet e.tc). • Makes the learning process much more interesting and fun. • . Enables to teachers to adopt different learning styles to meet the learners' need • Anything drawn or written on the interactive-whiteboard-surface can be saved on a computer hard disk through a whiteboard-software. (teachers can save and share there work and re-used it subsequently in case a repetition is required). • Promotes e-learning since contents from websites, blogs etc can be brought on the IWB-surface through a LCD projector. • Ideal tool for conducting brainstorming sessionsand other group activities.
