  1. Virtual Private DIRT Concepts, overview, and implementation Las Vegas, 9/13/2006 DIRT Development Team

  2. Background • CGA currently provides cga-dirt.com free to its members • Small organizations can use it today as their only damage database • Larger organizations have each created their own custom damage databases

  3. http://cga-dirt.com/ a.k.a. https://www.damagereporting.org/

  4. Why? • Why do these companies have their own damage databases? • Their database preceded DIRT • Not yet providing data to CGA DIRT (legal reasons, for instance) • Like to keep all data in-house • Collect MORE data than the CGA DIRT standard fields.

  5. The Basic Idea • How can CGA help? • Reduce/eliminate database (DB) creation cost for members • Reduce/eliminate operational overhead for member DBs • Ensure compatibility with CGA DIRT specifications • Ensure data privacy & security

  6. Solution: Virtual Private DIRT • Starts out as a secure, isolated copy of the DIRT application • Dedicated URL path (https://damagereporting.org/nnnnn) • Dedicated database space • Isolated identity management (users) • Separate configuration • Customize look & feel • Logo image • Application/organization name • Style, colors, layout to match your org. • Emails to/from your org.

  7. Graphical High-Level View

  8. Flex Field Customization • Add your own fields to CGA DIRT • Dates, numbers, pick lists, … • Validation rules & ranges • Help text • Becomes part of DIRT • Web form: Part Z • Automated Data Loader • Reporting/Query Wizard

  9. Additional Customizations • Country restrictions (restrict to either US or Canada) • State/Province subsets, useful for a state One-Call center • Basically, any pick list in CGA DIRT can be restricted (but not necessarily expanded) in your Virtual Private DIRT • Additional customizing and integrations available at time & materials rates.

  10. Data sharing with CGA • Opt-In Setting, see above • Automatic, nightly process once enabled • Shares new damage reports and edits to existing reports • Application Admins for Virtual DIRT instance become Company Admins in CGA DIRT North America to view their shared data.

  11. Data security & backups • Ref. DIRT Security Whitepaper At cga-dirt.com/presentation • Data only shared w/CGA if specified • Automatic nightly backups to two secure, redundant off-site locations • Nightly secure vendor-neutral data backups made available for your org (.csv files inside a .zip archive)

  12. Operational Model • “Hosted” Service • No servers needed at your facility • No databases needed at your facility • No software to install/patch • Accessed purely through web browser • How is it funded? • CGA membership & sponsorship • Nominal initial setup • Nominal annual subscription

  13. Not Yet Implemented Signing Up (proposed) • Link from cga-dirt.com or direct to cga-dirt.com/virtual • Other documentation for Virtual Private DIRT to be posted to that area • Online credit card payment (Visa/MC/Amex/…) -- “Buy Now” button for initial setup & first year’s subscription • Subscription renewals & upgrades to be available from same place

  14. Pricing • One-time initial setup $tbd, includes Xhrs support • Annual subscription $tbd up to X “seats” (active logins), Xhrs support • Additional “seats” $tbd/ea or $tbd/year for unlimited • Additional support or customization at $tbd/hr
