India After Independence • The territory of Kashmir, located between India and Pakistan, has been the cause of major dispute and tension over who owns it • Pakistan has long been under Military rule, making it very unstable • Health care improvements have boosted India’s population to over 1 billion • There are a lot of private ownership industries, which is a cause to why India’s economy is slightly less advanced than other East Asian countries

The Partition of India • Took place in 1947 • The cause was to divide the subcontinent of India along its sectarian lines • Tried to separate Hindus and Muslims equally • Resulted in Gandhi being assassinated for his strong leadership in his movements, territorial dispute in Kashmir and Jammu, and possible nuclear weapons testing

  5. China’s Population • 1.3 billion people • Most of the population is in south-east China • 1/5 of the world’s population • Rapid growth might harm China’s economy • As a result the One Child Policy

  6. Long March • 1934- 36 • March of Chinese communist to flee from the nationalist • Communist were led by Mao Zedong • Nationalist were led by Chang Kai-shek
