  1. Lab Exercise 5Classification of Tissues: Connective Tissue Connective Tissue: a tissue that supports, transports, binds, and protects structures in the body

  2. Types of Connective Tissue

  3. I will use BOTH microscopes AND diagrams to test you on epithelial tissues. Make sure you look at the microscopes in lab and the diagrams in this presentation.

  4. Make sure you know all the pieces of information listed in your lab packets! Also know the locations of ALL tissues!

  5. Loose Connective Tissue: Areolar TissueFind: matrix/ground substance, collagen fibers, elastic fibers, nuclei of cells

  6. Loose Connective Tissue: Adipose Tissue

  7. Loose Connective Tissue: Adipose TissueFind: adipocyte, lipid droplet, nucleus of an adipocyte

  8. Dense Regular Connective TissueLigaments & Tendons –

  9. Dense Connective Tissue: Dense Regular CTFind: collagen fibers, nuclei of fibroblasts

  10. Dense Irregular Connective TissueSkin Dermis

  11. Dense Connective Tissue: Dense Irregular CTFind: collagen fibers, nuclei of fibroblasts

  12. Supportive Conective Tissue: Hyaline Cartilage(Smooth and Clean Matrix!) LACUNA CHONDROCYTE

  13. Supportive Connective Tissue: Elastic Cartilage (Dirty Matrix!) ELASTIC FIBERS IN MATRIX CHONDROCYTE LACUNA

  14. Supportive Connective Tissue: Fibrocartilage or Fibrous Cartilage (Matrix looks like water, lacuna with chondrocytes look like boats) LACUNA CHONDROCYTE

  15. Practice with Connective Tissues!

  16. Name this tissue

  17. Dense Regular Connective Tissue Where in the body can you find this?

  18. Name this tissue.

  19. Dense Irregular Connective Tissue Where in the body can you find this tissue?

  20. Name this tissue

  21. Elastic cartilage What is the name of the “holes”? What are the names of the cells found inside these holes?

  22. Name this tissue.

  23. Fibrocartilage or Fibrous Cartilage Where in the body can you find this tissue?

  24. Name this tissue.

  25. Areolar Tissue

  26. Name this tissue

  27. Adipose Tissue Where is the nucleus of the adipocytes? What is filling most of the inside of the adipocyte? Where in the body can you find this tissue?

  28. Name this tissue.

  29. Hyaline Cartilage Where in the body can you find this tissue?
