  2. The 3rd class of stem-changing verbs are those that stem change from e to i: • Reglas de gramatica en el PRESENTE: • All stem change verbs have a spelling change in the stem (e to i) except for NOSOTROS. = BOOT verbs • These verbs also take regular endings.

  3. PEDIR = to ask for/order pido *pedimos pides pide piden Ex: Yo pido la cuenta del camarero. La chica pide ayuda alla profesora. Que’ piden Uds. para la cena? Pedimos la paella para la cena.

  4. Other verbs that stem change e to i like Pedir: Servir = to serve (serv-sirv) Repetir = to repeat (repet-repit) Vestir = to dress (vest-vist) Seguir = to follow (segu-sigu) *drops the “u” in the yo form only (sigo) Conseguir = to obtain/get (consegu-consigu) *drops the “u” in the yo form only (consigo)

Stem change verbs e to i in the present tense also stem change in the preterit but only in the third person singular (el/ella) and third person plural (ellos) forms. • 2. They take regular preterit endings.

  17. V. Practice on your own by forming 20 total sentences using the following verbs: pedir, conseguir, seguir, repetir, and servir. Vary pronouns. Write 10 in the present and rewrite in the preterit.
