Value Chain • Virtually in any way; common approaches are • APQC’s PCF • Porter’s Value Chain
Classification Framework • Provides framework to catergorise processes • Possible ways are • Porter’s Value Chain • APQC’s Process Classificaiton Framework • Business Units/Functions
Organisation Chart • Different from the functional structure • Focuses on the role of the individual • Role: set of activities that are to be performed by the resource • Independent from job positions
Life Cycle • A “value chain” at a functional level • It allows: • A high level overview • A breakdown of the function into different stages • A breakdown of the stages into tasks and processes
Risk Log • 2 aspects • Risks: Documenting all the risks associated with the processes; focus primarily on operational risks • Voice of Customer: to understand your customers requirements • Customers can be both internal and external
Process Map • A graphical representation of the sequence of steps or activities constituting a process, from inputs through to the outputs.
Process Documentation – Policies • Business rules that govern your process; business rules can cover • Compliance requirements • Industry standards • Business Practices • Anything • Restrictive in nature and hence should not be open ended • Clear owner is required to ensure enforcement • Time bound to ensure effectiveness
Process Documentation – Key Performance Indicators • Quantifiable indicator to measure the performance of the process • Where the data is located or found • How is the KPI being measured • Who is the audience of the KPI
Process Documentation – Document Management • All the documents used in the process, documents can be: • Electronic forms/documents • Printed forms/documents • External (from suppliers) documents • Location of where to find the documents
Process Documentation – Authority Matrix • Approvals for certain transactions • Quick snapshot of approval authorities • In compliance with the DOA • Any delegates in the absence of the original authority
