About Me • BA in Child Development from Cal State Los Angeles, Multiple Subjects Credential Program and Masters Degree in Education from Azusa Pacific University • 8th year teaching – 2 years in 7th grade and 6 years in 6th grade • Married – no children yet, but I have a dog named Bella • Enjoy scrapbooking and • running 

  3. Communication • It is very important that home/school communication be maintained! One of the best ways to communicate with me is by email: hvazquez@cvusd.k12.ca.us • Aeries (ABI) is also available for you to check your student’s grades and assignment completion as well. Letters with access codes will be mailed out in October. • Checking both the agenda and notebooks will also keep you up-to-date as to what is getting covered in class. • Available before/after school and during my preparation period (3rd) for conferences. • Phone number: 626-974-7300 • School Website: sierravista.cvusd.k12.ca.us

Dates To Remember • Minimum Day 9/17 (Staff Development Day) • October 7 – 10 Minimum Days (Parent/Teacher Conferences) • October 7 & 8 Conferences from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. • October 9 & 10 Conferences from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. • Students get out at 12:05 PM • No school for students on October 11 • PTA Dance – October 4 • Don’t forget to join the PTA - Only $6 • Otherwise Dance admission is $6

Academic Agenda & Study Habits Students expected to: • Comply with Falcon Standards • Be Prepared with Materials & Completed Homework • Filling in Agenda with assignments/projects daily • Daily Parent signature Communication about missing assignments will be made directly in the agenda book (Yellow Communication Card). Students will be given detention if there are excessive missing homework assignments.

English Curriculum:Weekly Reading Journal - due every other Friday Vocabulary Units – due every other Friday English Interactive Notebook An Interactive Notebook is a spiral notebook that students will use for every assignment in English class. This was created as a strategy to help students “interact” with the text and material presented in class.   8. History Curriculum:History Interactive Notebook An Interactive Notebook is a spiral notebook that students will use for every assignment in History class. This was created as a strategy to help students “interact” with the text and material presented in class.   9. District Benchmark Exams • District Benchmarks Exams will be given quarterly. They cover the Common Core standards learned in that grading period, as well as review any key standards from previous grading periods.

  10. Binders • White binders need to be at school every day. • Communication cards stapled in the agenda. • Binders should stay free of writing, stickers, photos, etc. • Agenda should be in binder at all times.

  12. Report Cards • 9 weeks quarter report cards (mailed home) • 4-5 weeks teacher “internal progress” report • Semester report cards (mailed home)

Materials Needed Below are items you will need this year for 6th grade English and History.  • Two single subject spiral notebooks (one for English and one for History). • Glue sticks • Pencils (Always have several) • Highlighter • Red pens (for correcting) • Colored pencils • Loose leaf college ruled paper
