  1. Welcome to theIndustrial Activities and Standard Committees Sukhan Lee Erwin Prassler

  2. Industrial Activities Committee:Theme • Global Theme : Critical Demand on a Closer Tie between R&D and Industry Sectors - Opportunity for Robotics to Create a Major Market, especially in Consumer Sector - Killer Application, Technology Outsourcing, Roadmap, Infrastructure, Standardization, Business Model • Societal Theme : Bridging the Gap between R&Dand Industry in Their Interest and Mutual Contribution - Lack of Industry Participation in Society Activities (Conference) - Society to be proactive by working together with Industry for the Creation of Robotics Industry

  3. Industrial Activities Committee:Organization • IAB (Industrial Activities Board) as a Counterpart of TAB (Technical Activities Board) : Dr. Tanie • Matrix Regional Committee Ad-Hoc T/F

  4. Committee:PotentialActivities • To Infuse Industrial Activities within Society Sponsored Conferences to increase Industry Participation (Ex. Special Sessions, Workshops, and Symposiums in conjunction with Society Sponsored Conferences. a Technology Fair with Exhibition Based Conference) • To Generate and MaintainTechnology Roadmap (cf. ITRS) • ToModularize and Standardize to Spur Applications • To Work Together with existing Industrial Associations and Societies related to Robotics (Ex. IFR, RIA, SME)

  5. Committee:Current Members Paolo Pirjanian (Evolution Robotics), Helen Greiner (i-Robot), Jeanne Dietsch (Active Media), Oossama Khatib (Stanford), Jim Butler (Intel) Erwin Prassler (Fraunhofer), Raja Chatila (LAAS-CNR), Henrik I. Christensen (RIT), Paolo Dario (SSSI), Reijo Tuokko (TUT), Bruno Siciliano (U of Naple) Masakatsu Fujie (Waseda), Kyungchul Shin (Yujin Robot), Steffen Gutmann (NEC), Takanori Shibata (AIST), Yangsheng Xu (U of Hongkong), Sukhan Lee(SKKU/Samsung)

  6. Today’sAgenda for Discussion • Ideas on Novel and Serious Activities : Roadmap, Standardization, etc. • Organization : Regional Committee & Chairs Ad-Hoc Committee & Chairs • Collaboration with IFR • New Forum for Society, Improvement of Conference • Collaboration with other Committees Working with Education Committee for Industry Input • Others

  7. Report on Industrial Activities Committee Meeting • Participants (15) : Paolo Pirjanian (Evolution Robotics), Jeanne Dietsch (Active Media), Oossama Khatib (Stanford), Erwin Prassler (Fraunhofer), Raja Chatila (LAAS-CNR), Henrik I. Christensen (RIT), Paolo Dario (SSSI), Reijo Tuokko (TUT), Masakatsu Fujie (Waseda), Takanori Shibata (AIST), Kazuo Tanie (AIST), Sukhan Lee(SKKU/Samsung), Herman Verbugge (IFR), George Bekey (USC)

  8. Committee Meeting :Action Item • IEEE R&A Society and IFR will collaborate for making ICRA more attractive to Industry, e.g., jointly organizing a Special Symposium or Workshop in conjunction with ICRA. (Academia : informed of outstanding research issues that are relevant to industry from case studies. Industry : obtain up-to-date research results relevant to their technical issues.) • An Ad-Hoc T/F will be formed from both sides of members to lay out the detailed plan in close consultation with the Conference Board. (IFR : Herman Verbugge, Doug Vincent, Paul Johnson IEEE : Erwin Prassler, Sukhan Lee, Jeanne Dietsch)

  9. Committee Meeting :Roadmappng • While concentrating on a special symposium or workshop to be held jointly with IEEE and IFR in conjunction with ICRA, the committee will look for a possibility of building a TRM. (Roadmap T/F: Reijo Tuokko, Takanori Shibata, NIST researcher) • The Issue of Standardization will be studied further by the Standardization Committee led by Erwin Prassler (Start with easier area to work on such as vocabulary, evaluation, etc.)

  10. Thank you for your Participation
