  1. Black History Month(BHM) By: Kennedy Moore

  2. Barack Obama • He attended Occidental College until he was transferred to Columbia University. Later graduating from Harvard Law. • Barack Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize and is donating his prize money to a charity which has not been found out yet.

  3. Martin Luther King Jr. • He was known for racial, equality, and civil rights in USA. • His assassination occurred in Memphis, Tennessee. • Martin Luther King Day, August 28 is Dream Day. • It happened on April4, 1968.

  4. Emancipation Proclamation • It is a historical document that freed all south slaves. • It happened on January1, 1865.

  5. The 13th-15th Amendments to the Constitution • 13th Amendment- It says that slavery is abolished. It happened on December6, 1865. • 14th Amendment- It says that slaves are now citizens. It happened on July9, 1968. • 15th Amendment- It says that every ethnicity has the right to vote. It happened on February3, 1870.

  6. Jim Crow Laws • The laws said blacks and whites should be separated. • The effect would be that African- Americans had less rights that whites. • It happened between the years of 1876-1965.

  7. Formation of NAACP • It stands for “The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People”. • This organization formed to ensure political, educational, social, and economic. • It happened on Feburary12, 1909.

  8. Brown vs. Board of Education Court Decision • This decision acquainted high school and college students with the legal history of segregation. • This decision means that they could go places that were once only for whites. • It happened in 1954.

  9. Little Rock Nine • Some of the people are Thelma, Minnijean, Elizabeth, and Gloria. • There were riots. • It’s important because caused desegration of the schools. • It happened on May17, 1954.

  10. Civil Rights Act of 1964 • It told people to treat African- American people equal and allow them to go to school with whites. • Harry S. Truman tried to get this law passed, but died before seeing it happen. • It happened in 1964.

  11. Rosa Parks Bus Incident • She refused to give her seat to a white man. • This incident caused desegration for city buses. • It happened on December1, 1955.

  12. Jesse Owens • He was famous for being the world’s greatest track and field athletes, and an Olympic gold medalist. • This is significant because he is African- American. • It happened in 1936.

  13. Jackie Robinson • He was the first African- American man to be in the MLB. • This is significant because he was the first African- American to be in the baseball hall of fame. • This happened on April18, 1946.

  14. Martin Luther King’s Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” Speech • The speech was given at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. • The main idea was for racial equality and an end to discrimination. • It happened on August28,1963.
