  1. A TIMELINE OF CHILD’S DENTAL HEALTH

  2. Your baby will have rapid mouth changes during the first 24 months of life. It's time for you to become your little tooth fairy by helping them strengthen their teeth in the world of solid food. You also need to monitor their health. All stages of dentistry require adequate attention and care. 2

  3. Here's a timeline of your child's dental development that will help you be more confident about your child's dental future: 2

  4. 0-4 Months During this time, the hard tissue that surrounds the teeth is forming. It's important to start using a damp cloth or gauze to wipe your baby's gums at this age. Using a soft rubber finger brush can also help. This is the perfect time to implement and start practicing oral hygiene habits with your child. Make sure to wipe your child's gums at least twice a day at intervals of two or three seconds. 2

  5. 4-6 months Your baby starts teething at this time. Be sure to continue the process of wiping your baby's gums. The teeth that are about to come in can be a bit sensitive with practice but if you follow good oral hygiene habits it will benefit and prevent plaque build-up as it can form even on the youngest teeth. . This is the right time to schedule your child's first dental appointment. 2

  6. 1 year old This is the best time to introduce your child to a soft-bristled toothbrush. Before your child practices brushing and spitting out toothpaste, it's best to use a fluoride-free toothpaste. Floss as often as you can when you see your child's teeth touching the sides. Healthy oral hygiene habits such as regular flossing can prevent future dental problems. 2

  7. 2-3 years It is important for parents to know that pacifiers can lead to dental complications. If you are used to your baby sucking on a pacifier, this can lead to mouth deformities. Thumb sucking is another problem parents notice in children this age. Plan a routine that helps your child brush twice a day, although brushing after each meal is even better. It's time to introduce fluoride toothpaste. By age 3, your child will have 20 teeth and teaching them how to floss becomes essential at this stage. 2

  8. 3-6 years At this age, independence with oral hygiene may be allowed, but supervision is required as your child may miss cleaning areas of the mouth that are hard for them to reach. Your dentist will now know your child's teeth by taking X-rays to understand your child's overall appearance and health. 2

  9. Permanent Teeth Eruption At this age, your child will be more independent and have established their own dental habits. Your dentist may recommend seeing an orthodontist if they see a problem with your child's tooth structure development. 2
