FRP Scaffolding: Its Types, Uses, And Advantages A Scaffolding is also known as staging or scaffold, is a structure(temporary structure) that is commonly used for supporting a work crew and helping them in fields of construction, repairing or renovation of buildings, maintenance of bridges, and several other man-made structures. FRP Scaffolding is widely used on construction sites to access heights and areas that are otherwise quite difficult to access. Unsafe scaffoldings can result in serious accidents causing death or severe injuries. Scaffolding types used in construction sites There are primarily four varieties of scaffoldings used across the globe. These are as follows: Tube fitting and coupler fitting components Prefabricated modular system scaffold components Façade or H-frame modular system scaffolds Bamboo scaffolds (mostly used in India and China) Timber scaffolds (mostly used in India and China)
Each of these types is made out of multiple industrial components such as: A base plate or jack acts as the base load-bearer for the scaffolds. The upright and the standard component armed with connector joins. A horizontal brace is commonly called a ledger. A horizontal cross-section load-bearing component is known as the transom that helps in holding the batten, the decking unit, or the board. The brace is a diagonal and cross-section component that helps in bracing. The batten is a board decking component widely used to make the primary working platform. The coupler is a fitting that helps in joining various components together. The scaffold tie is used to tie the scaffold directly to the structures. The brackets are best used to extend or widen the width of working platforms. Types of FRP scaffolding FRP scaffolding is mainly branched into two types, concerning their width. They are more commonly known as single-width towers and double-width towers. These have numerous features such as non-conductivity, easy and smooth installation, and their anti-corrosive nature. Non-conductivity is the main feature of FRP scaffolding for which it is mostly used in power stations and construction sites. Some advantages of these scaffoldings are listed below: FRP is lightweight that makes it easier to install and reduces expenses on labor and installation. FRP scaffolding is non-conductive to electricity that makes it safe to use in the electrical jobs. FRP is durable and is considerably stronger than other traditional materials. FRP maximizes a structure’s resistance against weathering, aging, and degradation. FRP composite materials are preferred because of their splendid anti-corrosive nature, low maintenance, and efficient service. FRP Scaffolding is immensely useful in fields of formwork and shoring, concert stages, grandstand seating, access towers or viewing towers, ski ramps, exhibition stands, and art projects.
