DRSABCD is an acronym/mnemonic taught on first aid courses to help you have an action plan on how to respond in a medical emergency. DRSABCD ACTION PLAN Danger Ensure the area is safe for yourself, the patient and others. D Response Check for response by asking name and squeezing shoulders. YES NO R Monitor, Send for help. make comfortable, check for injuries. Send for help Call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. S NO YES Airway Open mouth and check for foreign material. A Place patient on back. Tilt head & lift chin to keep airway open. Place patient in recovery position. Clear airway with fingers. NOT Breathing Look listen and feel for normal breathing. NORMAL BREATHING B BREATHING NORMALLY Place in Place on back and start CPR. recovery position. CPR C Give 30 compressions followed by two rescue breaths, or commence compression only CPR. Defibrillator D Apply defibrillator and follow the device’s visual and verbal prompts. Continue CPR until help arrives.
