  2. The UAE has an open trade policy, with minimal tariffs and few non-tariff trade barriers. It is mandatory for all entrepreneurs to have an understanding of the trade laws and regulations in the UAE (seek the help of legal consultants in Dubai) prior to starting their business.   3. Tariff-related Trade Barriers • Imported items are subject to 5% customs tax (except agricultural products and pharmaceuticals). Alcohol is subject to 50% tax, whereas 100% tax is levied on tobacco products.

  4. Non- Tariff Barriers Importing products into the UAE is restricted to companies with the relevant trade authorization. Alcoholic beverages, pig and pork products, medicines, printed materials such as periodicals, photographic material, guns, and fireworks are all subject to import restrictions.

  5. Based on religious beliefs and local values, the following items are prohibited: • Goods produced in Israel. • Literature and materials containing pornographic content. It is mandatory to seek special permission for importing Drugs, Alcoholic beverages. Firearms, Explosives, Agricultural pesticides, Methyl alcohol etc.

  6. According to the UAE Ministry of Health and legal consultants in Dubai, all pharmaceutical imports must be transported at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. Imported goods/food labels must have the following standard information, which must be written in both English and Arabic: • product and brand • Ingredients • additives using their 'E' numbers  • origin of all animal fats • production and expiry date • net contents in metric units • country of origin • name and address of the manufacturer • Consignees mark and port mark in Arabic

  7. Documentary requirements for clearance: • Valid trade license copy • Certificate of origin • Commercial invoice of the original supplier • Delivery order from the shipping agent

Sponsors, agents, or distributors that are chosen have exclusive rights to non-food items only.
