  3. Classroom Rules • Absolutely no cell phones, texting, net surfing etc. during lecture.

  4. Course Outline • Chapters 1 - 13 of the assigned text (excluding Chapter 8). • Word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software (ie. PowerPoint), HTML • Topics include: understanding and assessing computer hardware, software, operating systems, networking, the Internet, security and ethics, programming overview • See the course schedule online for details and dates.

  5. Course Components • Lectures • Taught by CS prof. • Two identical sections: Mondays and Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. (useful when missing a class due to illness). • Labs • Taught by lab instructors and IAs. • Must attend your specified lab. • Labs begin in week 2 (next week). • Must do pre-lab work before labs begin in week 2. PEARSON PRENTICE HALL, 2010. • Must buy book (paper or ebook) WITH MYITLab access code. • Edition used last term is 2-3 years out of date; plus you still need MYITLab code ($75 separate)

Course Evaluation (cont’d) • Quizzes • Done at beginning of each lab • Labs • Done during the lab. • Assignments • Due Saturdays before 11:45 pm • You may need work from earlier assignments in later ones. • No group work is allowed. • Cheating will not be tolerated. All answers must be in your own words. • Late assignments will not be accepted. • You are responsible for storing your own work.

Cp102 Facilities • All PCs on campus that are connected to the Novell network, and that are capable of running Windows XP, can be used by you for your assignments. • You already have a Novell account as a registered student • It is strongly advised that you learn to access your own account before the start of the first lab. • More on facilities and how to use your account during your first lab but practice beforehand.
