  2. Backround • Our main Athenian character is a citizen • His father is a wealthy and well known member of the city council • Father is powerful and holds influence over others

  3. Early years:Birth-15 • He attends the local school • He spends some time meeting the great figures through his fathers connections, Socrates and other greats • Performs best in athletics

  4. Coming of age: 16-25 • At 16, our characters father is ostracized for being to powerful. The year is 440

  5. Coming of age: 16-25 • This causes our character, who was headed for great things to lose respect • As the city become hostile to him and his fathers legacy, he is looking for options to recognition • Out of desperation he joins the military

  6. He is stationed at Megara, a Delian League port in the south • His is one of the first posts hit by early conflict in the Peloponnesian War

  7. Most of the rest of the film follows his adventures through the War • He ends in Athens where he dies of the plague
