  2. STATUS REPORT FOR STANDARD IN DEVELOPMENT NASA-STD-5013 Pyrovalve Application and Performance Handbook Date: June 2007 TWG Chair: Regor L. SaulsberryRegor.L.Saulsberry@nasa.gov Center: WSTF Phone: (505) 524-5518 Proposal No.: Assigned by Proposal System If VCS, Standards Developing Org: N/A Start: February 2000 Deliver to NTSPO: August 2006 Task Description: Develop NASA Pyrovalve Applications and Testing Handbook to help ensure spacecraft safety and mission success. • Plans • Address Marshall comments • Start updates to incorporate a large volume of data being developed by the NESC Pyrovalve Ignition Failure Investigation issue/resolution highly recommended. Updates with NESC findings required to help ensure spacecraft safety. • Complete incorporation of extensive data and updates from the NESC Pyrovalve Ignition on Failure Investigation • Modify document such as for release as AIAA standard if desired • Issues • Need to get current version issued • Need to update current version once issued to reflect new failures • FY07 – 20K required • FY08 - 20K required • Accomplishments • Draft Handbook incorporating comments of NASA pyrotechnic and AIAA TC was transmitted to Paul Gill (Oct. 2005) • Document was reformatted as a NASA HDBK by the Technical Standards editor and WSTF reviewed it to verify accuracy. • Issuing is with Marshall • The NESC is reacting to new failures of 4 ground test Pyrovalves that have a serious impact on several Planetary vehicles using the valve • The NESC is doing extensive new testing at WSTF, other Centers, and industry to understand and resolve the booster ignition issues • Approximately 1-2 copies per week is being requested from WSTF, who is providing the WSTF version. Baker david.l.baker@nasa.gov Center: WSTF Phone: 505-524-5605 Proposal No.: WSTF-2004-3 If VCS, Standards Developing Org: ISO Start: June 2005 Deliver to NTSPO: October 2006 Task Description: Information detailing revision of ISO/FDIS 15859- Parts 1 through 13. • Plans • This project is complete and should be removed from the • tracking system • Issues • - None • Accomplishments • ISO standard rewrites considered complete by U.S. delegate and WG6 • Remaining funding was used to support U.S. delegate travel to ISO meeting in France (November 2006) • Application notes for the each of ISO 15859 Parts 1-13 were submitted, approved (Danny Garcia), and reside on the NASA Technical Standards web site • WG6 is favorably considering replacement by incorporation of corresponding U.S. Military and Federal documents specifications by reference OBS = Obligated; COST = Costed

Baker david.l.baker@nasa.gov Center: WSTF Phone: 505-524-5605 Proposal No.: WSTF-2004-4 If VCS, Standards Developing Org: CPIAC Start: February 2000 Deliver to NTSPO: TBD Task Description: Update Ignition and Thermal Hazards of Selected Aerospace Fluids (task replaces the development of AIAA hypergol subject guides) • Plans • Confirm details with CPIAC • Proceed with electronic conversion, review, and update with existing funds • Assess and submit proposal for additional funding as required • Issues • None • Accomplishments • Six subject guide documentation with AIAA and WSTF representative • ITAR issues prohibited further action • Discussed status with JANNAF/AIAA LPCOS • Funding in hand was approved for change in direction to the update of the WSTF document “Ignition and Thermal Hazards of Selected Aerospace Fluids” as a CPIAC ITAR-controlled document • Coordination with CPIAC on details initiated and in progress OBS = Obligated; COST = Costed

Develop an ASTM Standard Guide for NDT of polymeric matrix aerospace composites 2. Develop an ASTM Standard Practice for NDT of flat panel aerospace composites • Plans • WSTF anticipates meeting the November 6 E07 subcommittee balloting deadline for submission of 5 draft Practices • Balloting results to be discussed in January 07 for the main committee (Guide) and the subcommittee (Practices) • New ASTM E07 Standard Practicesfor NDT of COPVs planned for FY07 (JPL proposal with WSTF involvement) (already underway for Shearography) • Funding transfer from JSC in process: (Procurement $: 45K; Travel $: 2K) • Issues • None • Accomplishments • Revised Guide re-submitted to E07 for main committee balloting in October 2006 • Five ASTM task groups established and corresponding work items generated for standard Practices for NDT of flat panel composites and sandwich core constructions (November 6 deadline for subcommittee ballot) • Provided planning support and NDE equipment purchase (SEM tensile load frame and acoustic emission system) for the NDE of NASA Non-destructive Testing Working Group (NNWG) COPV burst test effort OBS = Obligated; COST = Costed

Baker david.l.baker@nasa.gov Center: WSTF Phone: 505-524-5605 Proposal No.: N/A If VCS, Standards Developing Org: ISO Start: December 2006 Deliver to NTSPO: September 29, 2007 Task Description: White Sands Support for ISO Space Systems and Operations, European Community Space Standards, and ASTM • Plans • Identify US Aerospace M&P standards and propose to implement as ISO standards • Review of ISO and ECSS standards (14952 Parts 1-6 70% complete and 14624 Parts 1-4 have been reviewed and are being revised) and perform comparison evaluations with NASA standards by various WSTF experts • 13 aerospace fluids standards are in CD (committee draft) status (result of the ISO 15859 re-write project) • Issues • - None • Accomplishments • Completed resolution of all ISO action items from France • Review of ISO Standards 14952 (Space Systems – Surface Cleanliness of Fluid Systems) Parts 1-6 are 70% complete • Travel to ISO Plenary meetings in China (May 2007); 2 presentations given; presented a statistical analysis comparing round robin test data among ASTM E595 with ECSS Q70-02 OBS = Obligated; COST = Costed
