  2. I. General Information A. A student must apply to an institution of higher learning if he/she desires to pursue a postsecondary education.

  3. B. The student must submit the following information: 1. An application for admissions. 2. Application fee or fee waiver. 3. Letter(s) of recommendation. 4. Supporting academic and/or financial information.

  4. Many institutions may also require additional information: 1. College admissions test scores (SAT or ACT). 2. Personal statements or essays. 3. Personal interview with institutional staff or alumni.

  5. D. The student's high school must submit: 1. A secondary school report form. 2. A student transcript. 3. A counselor's letter of recommendation.

  6. E. The above information must be submitted to the institution by a date that is set by the institution.

  7. II. Admissions Plans A. Regular Admission Plans 1. Regular Admission a. Most application deadlines in January or February. b. Admissions decisions made at one time. c. Decision letters mailed at one time. d. May 1 is the deadline for students to notify institutions of their college choice.

  8. 2. Rolling Admission a. Evaluated on a "first-come, first-serve" basis. b. Deadline refers to end of the review period. c. Admissions decisions are made after each applicant's folder is complete. d. Applicants are notified as soon as a decision is made. e. May 1 is the deadline for students to notify institutions of their college choice.

  9. 3. Open Enrollment a. Students only need to meet or exceed the admissions standards set by the institution. b. State or county residency may be a requirement. c. Minimum proficiency tests may be given for academic placement.

  10. 4. Deferred Admission a. Same rules apply as those of regular admissions. b. Student may defer matriculation until the following year because of medical, financial, contractual, or emotional reasons. c. If accepted, a nonrefundable deposit may be required.

  11. B. Early Admission Plans1. Early Decision a. Applicants who have identified a first-choice school and do not intend to apply anywhere else(unless denied). b. Deadlines are generally in November; applicants are notified in December. c. If accepted, student must attend. d. Applicant may be deferred to regular admissions. e. Serious financial, family, or medical problems are the only ways an applicant can be released from their commitment.

  12. 2. Early Action a. Applicants may apply early (usually November) for acceptance. b. If accepted, however, the institution will not impose an obligation on the applicant to enroll. c. Applicants may be accepted, deferred, or rejected.

  13. Financial Aid • In addition to your Take Stock in Children scholarship, you are required to seek additional financial aid. • One requirement is to submit a free application for Federal Student Aid also known as FAFSA. • For complete information on financial aid, please view the financial aid presentation on the Take Stock in Children website.
