  2. There are surprising and increasing numbers of people falling into poverty

  3. Living costs – rent, fuel, food are all increasing Wages are not going up Benefits are being affected

  4. What is a Food Bank?

  5. Our parcel packing area

  6. Where does the food come from?

  7. Traditionally from weekly church collections

  8. and Schools Harvest collections

  9. But to meet increasing demand, at least once a month we have collections at Waitrose stores

  10. We ask people to buy an extra item of food to donate to us

  11. Waitrose then deliver to our warehouse

  12. Who collects, sorts and delivers the food?

  13. We rely on lots and lots of volunteers

  14. How many people does ReadiFood help?

  15. Two years ago we were delivering around 25 food parcels per week to families and individuals

  16. Now we give away 100 food parcels each week That will equal £50,000 worth of food by the end of the year We will have helped 5000 people

  17. How do we know who to take food to? How does the food get to the people who need it?

  18. We get referrals from over 60 agencies including Reading Borough Council Job Centre Plus; YMCA; Welfare Rights; CCA shops

  19. People can also collect their parcels from a number of local churches

  20. Many people have their parcels delivered to the door by our staff and volunteers

  21. What sort of food do we need?

  22. Anything that will store for some time. Tins and packets.

  23. We are not specifically collecting Christmas Food this year Everything will help
