Introduction • Education • Pursuing MS in Information Assurance at Capitol College • BS Information & Computer Technology from East Carolina University • Academy of Information Technology Graduate • Employment • Lockheed Martin IS&GS – Information Assurance Engineer • Experience • IT Administration with multiple government customers • Security +, Network +

Real World Problem • The customer was spending way too much time and money to manually create workstation/laptop images every quarter • 15 – 20 images created requiring a Certification & Accreditation Package for each • Patches come out regularly and image is obsolete before it has been certified • We were tasked to develop a solution to cut down the time and cost of developing an image

  4. Task • Develop a solution that will allow for faster integration of security patches and software • Enable solution to easily accept new versions of Windows Operating systems • Allow Deployment Technicians easily add extra software on top of image

  5. Constraints • Limited budget to develop project • Unfamiliar with current deployment technologies • Development team had no experience with coding • Must be centralized and controlled • 15 to 20 separate hardware sets needing separate drivers • Hardware specific software (i.e. Video Drivers)

Problem Solution • Customer hired Microsoft Consultant to teach us about deployment technologies • Used Microsoft Deployment Toolkit and Windows Automated Installation Kit to decouple image from hardware (free software) • Scripted installation of applications with AutoIT and SMS packager (free software) • Created task sequences to ease installation and prevent mistakes
