  2. Prayer to the Holy Spirit Holy Spirit, be with me today. Be my teacher, my guide, my counselor, my friend. Fill me with your gifts, especially the gifts of wisdom, discernment, knowledge, understanding, compassion, love, and awe in God's presence. In all that I think, say, and do, let it be in accordance with your most holy and perfect will. I ask this in Jesus' name. AMEN.

  5. “We are called to be men and women of prayer and to take care of our own primary relationship with God as the very source of our own ministries and activities. We must deepen our own walk with Jesus Christ so that we transparently reflect Christ all the more. The old maxim is true “you cannot give what you do not have yourself”; therefore, we cannot be Christ to the world if we have not let Him enter our own lives and take hold of us”. “Teach My People To Pray”

Faith- At the Heart of Our lives Faith is not something decorative, ornamental; living the faith is not decorating life with a little religion, as if life were a pie and faith like the whipped cream that you use to decorate it. No, faith is not this. Faith entails choosing God as the basic criterion for life, and God is not empty, God is not neutral, God is always positive, God is love, and love is positive! Remember this: following Jesus is not something neutral. Following Jesus means getting involved because faith is not something decorative, it is the strength of the soul!   7. Make Christ a Priority! “Making Christ a priority in our lives means that we have to say “yes” to what Christ is asking of us and say “no” to the things of the world that pull us away from him”. (Teach My People To Pray) • What do you need to say yes to in your life? • What do you need to say no to in your life?

  8. In the 1930's many Christian and Moslem clergy flocked into India to convert the millions who were oppressed as untouchables. The Christian clergy stood on street corners loudly denouncing Hinduism and proclaiming the virtues of Christianity. Months went by without a single convert accepting the offer. Frustrated, one priest asked Grandfather: After all the oppression and discrimination that the 'untouchables' suffer under Hinduism, why is it they do not accept our offer of a better life under Christianity? Grandfather replied: When you stop telling them how good Christianity is and start living it, you will find more converts than you can cope with. These words of wisdom apply to all religions of the world. We want to shout from roof-tops the virtues of our beliefs and not translate them into our lives.

What does the prayer life of a disciple look like? “It is clear that it is not just the recitation of prayers at Sunday Mass that signifies a person who has a quality prayer life, although this is certainly an important part of a disciple's prayer life.  Rather, a disciple of Jesus is someone who is a good friend of Jesus and spends some time alone with the Lord in prayer every day. As Bishop Robert Morneau so eloquently remarks “Prayer is that plunge into the mind and heart of God, attentive to his word and willing to do his will.” Each of us is called to walk with Jesus, and strive to grow closer to Him in thought, word and deed”.   14. You as Leader of Prayer Start by looking at your own prayer life When searching for God, it is best to look first at ones own prayer life.

Your Prayer Life Which of these ways of praying are part of your prayer life? • Meditation • Traditional prayers • Liturgy of the hours • Rosary • Scriptures and other spiritual writings • Way of the Cross • Morning and Night prayers • Retreats • Novena • Song, music Which types of prayer do you feel comfortable leading? Making The Most Of Your Life -Everyone has exactly 168 hours a week Could we give God at least 10% of that time (16.8 hours) The average person spends 48 minutes a week in spiritual activity That would make about 7 minutes a day in service to God and it is not enough -Are you letting the Lord direct your steps? Are you using your time wisely? Eccl. 3:1-14

  17. “We need to make space for Christ in our minds and in our hearts which are often too cluttered. We need to make space for the gift which is Jesus Christ himself for “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever”- (Heb 13:8)”. “Disciples on the Way” What do I need to “de-clutter” in my words, thoughts or actions to make more space for Jesus Christ?

  18. How much of my days are consumed with things that I want to do?? Do I put God in the “back seat” of my life? How much time do I give to the Church? Is Sunday a sacred day for my family? God Is home a place where our faith is central? Do we discuss our faith in the home? Am I constantly doing things for others? Do I ignoremy own desire for prayer?

  21. Blind Bartimaeus They came to Jericho.And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, son of David, have pity on me.” And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent.   24. How do you respond? A man fell into a pit and could not get himself out: A SUBJECTIVE PERSON said, “I feel for you down there.” AN OBJECTIVE PERSON said, “How could someone possibly fall down there?” A PHARISEE said, “Only bad people would fall into a pit.” A NEWS REPORTER wanted an exclusive story on the pit. A MATHEMATICIAN calculated how he fell into the pit.

  25. How do you respond? THE INCOME TAX MAN asked if he was paying taxes on the pit. A SELF-PITYING PERSON said, “You haven’t seen anything until you have seen my pit.” AN OPTIMIST said, “Things could get worse.” A PESSIMIST said, “Things will get worse.”
