  6. WHO WE ARE The E.B.C. (European Builders Confederation) The Voice of Construction Craft and SMEs in Europe EBC was established in 1990 Now: 19 members and partners In total EBC members group together 600,000 Craftsmen and SMEs from the construction sector employing 2,500,000 workers

  9. WHAT WE DID LATELY REDUCED VAT RATES: Success! The possibility of applying reduced VAT rates to maintenance and renovation of housing until December 2010 13 EU countries: BE, ES, FR, IE, IT, NL, PT, UK*, CZ, LV, LT, PL, SI CE MARKING of construction products: Success! Specific provisions regarding micro-enterprises and non series products. UNDER CONSTRUCTION II PROJECT: Success! EU Grant awarded : 150.000 EUR 13 partners -10 countries

  10. EBC PRIORITIES FOR THE NEXT EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT • Invest in construction • Implement the Small Business Act • Improve subcontracting conditions • Fight undeclared work • SME access to Public Procurement • Invest in training and adapt it to the needs

  11. CONCLUSION • IMPORTANT for construction SMEs to be represented at the EU level • Most of the national legislation in H&S comes from the EU • EBC is the only European association defending specifically the interests of construction SMEs

UNDER CONSTRUCTION II • GOALS • Contribute to the dissemination of the OSHA campaign • Organise an exchange of good practices among associations of SMEs • Strengthenthe sectoral social dialogue in the construction sector. • PARTNERS • 13 associations 11 countries • DURATION • 12 months from January to December 2009 • FINANCING • European Commission grant of 150,000 € • STRUCTURE • 4 twinning groups with associations taking part in 8 seminars

SCHEDULE 2 Results of the twinning phase Preparation of an evaluation questionnaire Submission of the questionnaire to all participants Collecting the results Conclusion Organising the closing conference in London (over 2 days) November 2009 – all partners – guests Dissemination phase Drafting and translation of the final publication (printed in 500 copies) Short dissemination film with interviews to entrepreneurs and visits to building sites
