Basketball is a game that includes men and women of all ages and ability. The aim of the game is to score points for your team and try to stop the other team from scoring.

slide3

Who invented it?

A Guy called James Naismith invented basketball in 1891 by putting a peach basket at each end of a court and you would score by throwing the ball into the basket to score points.

Rules

You are not aloud to take 2 or more steps with the ball or it will be a travel.

You can’t dribble with both hands or that will be a double dribble.

When you are trying to block the opponent that's got the ball, you can’t reach over to try and block them off.

You can have 1-3 time outs per half or quarter (it depends on if your games a split into halves or quarters)

If you are the last one to tap the ball before it goes out, it’s the other teams ball.

If happen to put a foul on someone who is taking a shot at goal, they get 2 free throws and they are worth one point each shot you get in.

When your team gets 9 fouls the other team gets two free shots in which anyone can take.

When you get 4 fouls your in trouble! If you get 5, your off on the bench for the whole game.

The minimum of people on the court is 4. the best thing to do, is to play a box around the key (the shooting area)
