  2. What is Lotus Sametime? • Sametime is a tool for live collaboration • Features include: • An online meeting center and classroom • A live chat area • Instant polling of attendees • Hand raising capability • An instant messaging tool

  3. The Sametime Screen This is the Sametime screen you will be using for your Virtual Classroom sessions. Let’s take a look at each part of the screen.

  4. Online Meeting Center and Classroom The main portion of your screen consists of the presentation for your Virtual Classroom session. It may be in PowerPoint, Excel, or any other software format.

  5. Live Chat Area The bottom of your screen contains a chat area. Enter your questions or comments in the open box at the very bottom of the screen. During your Virtual Classroom, you will see questions and comments from other participants and the instructor in this area. Make sure the “Chat” tab is highlighted to view and submit the comments from the session.

  6. Instant Polling Throughout the Virtual Classroom session, the instructor will ask you any number of true/false or multiple choice questions. A window will pop up in the middle of the screen containing the question and possible responses. Click on your answer, then click O.K. to submit your answer. The instructor will summarize the responses and report the results to the class.

  7. Web Page Access At various times during the Virtual Classroom session, your instructor may take you to web pages with relevant information for the course. Your instructor will automatically launch the web page on your screen.

  8. Participant List The far right hand column contains the list of participants in your Virtual Classroom. Your name will also appear in this area when you join the classroom session.

  9. Hand Raising Capability Throughout the Virtual Classroom session, you will have the opportunity to “raise your hand” to respond to questions or when you’d like to speak to the class. Click on the maroon hand icon here to raise your hand. Click on it one more time to lower your hand. A hand icon will appear next to your name in the participant list to indicate your hand has been raised.

  10. Instant Messaging Tool At various times during the Virtual Classroom, you may be assigned to a small group discussion. An Instant Messaging box will pop up on your screen. Click on “Join the Meeting” to participate in the small group chat. Type your comments in the bottom line of the Instant Messaging box and click “Send” to submit your comments to the group.

  12. Setting Screen View To set your screen to the best view for you personally, click on the “Fit Shared Area to Window” icon. You can also choose the “Make Shared Area Full Screen” icon to have the presentation fill your entire screen. You will not be able to see the chat in this mode, however.

  13. Whiteboard Features • Several types of drawing tools are available for you and the presenter to make changes to the slides • A text tool is available to add notes or responses to the slides themselves • A variety of shapes are available to highlight areas of the slides.

  14. Whiteboard Features A variety of drawing and writing tools are are available for you to interact with the slides, as well as for the presenter to highlight information for you. Your presenter will allow you to interact with the slides at various intervals.
