  1. ANDY StatusCommissioning with colliding beams (p+p at s=500 GeV) L.C.Bland, for AnDY 8 February 2011 Time Meeting, BNL

  2. 1 MIP 2 MIP Minimum Bias (MB) Trigger • AnDY beam-beam counter uses former paddle counters from PHOBOS • Minimum-ionizing particle (MIP) peaks used for first-pass gain matching • MB = (SQB > Q0)(SQY > Q0)

  3. Hit TimingMB Collision Triggerrecovered after 20110202 access No timing cut • “reversed logic” issue reported last week fixed during access • Hit timing measurements now in data • Collision trigger = (MB)  (DT1<DT<DT2) commissioned on 20110205 • Subsequent to this commissioning, we are in collision-trigger “production” until next access where some remaining issues will be resolved Yellow backgnd Collisions Blue backgnd With timing cut

  4. Increasing row  Increasing column/distance from beam  Hadron Calorimeteras seen by collision trigger • Uses relative gain matching from cosmic-ray m events • Still need to trigger on LED to establish if optics is unaffected by final placement of HCal • Energy scale still to be determined • Work on HCal trigger has begun

  5. Issues and Plansfor next access possibility and beyond • Resolve a few remaining single-channel issues • Set up measurement of live time • We are in “production” now for minimum bias with >50M events recorded so far. • Following access, in coming week… • Begin ECal final calibration • Commission additional triggers

  6. Backup

  7. Schematic of detector for Run-11 • Equipment in place: • HCal is two existing 9x12 modules from E864 (NIM406,227) • ECal are two small lead-glass modules from BigCal at JLab • BBC (from PHOBOS) and ZDC • Preshower is newly constructed scintillator arrays • Goals: • Establish impact of 3IR operation on PHENIX/STAR luminosity • Calibrate HCal • relative gain via cosmic-ray m • absolute energy scale via r,L,KS… • Measure hadronic backgrounds to benchmark simulations • Measure jet analyzing power (Lint~10 / pb, P=50%)
